Mel passed away on Friday, December 15th, after a lengthy illness. He was fortunate to be at home with his daughter, Trisha, and her family in Vienna, Va., where he had lived for the past six years.

Mel grew up in Beaver, Pa., and was a graduate of the Beaver High School class of 1960. He went on to attend airline school in Hartford, Ct., where he met Judy, his wife of fifty-one years. From there, Mel pursued a successful career in transportation logistics, working in various positions for Emery Air Freight and FedEx Logistics, In his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family and watching the Pittsburgh Steelers play football. He was also an active participant in the ancestry.com community, having traced family history and records for both his and Judy's lines back to the 1600's.

Mel leaves behind friends in the many places where he and Judy lived throughout the years, including Brentwood, NY, Apple Valley, Mn., Bethel, Ct., and Cary, NC. He is survived by his daughters Kristin Stotler and Trisha Stotler Meyer of Vienna, Va.; and his beloved grandchildren Max, Mick and Dera Meyer and Abby Stotler.

The family will hold a private memorial celebration on Wednesday, December 20th. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the COPD Foundation, 3300 Ponce de Leon Boulevard, Miami, FL 33134 (www.copdfoundation.org).
