Nathaniel Paul Harrington, beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed from this life into the next unexpectedly one week ago after struggling with health issues for many years.
Nathan was born at Malcolm Grow Hospital on Andrews AFB, the youngest of four sons born to Don and Jerri Harrington.
The family moved from Bolling AFB to Centreville, Virginia, when Nate was just three years old. He loved playing outside with his brothers and walking them to school and back with his mother, often stopping at the playground on the way home. Nate was confident among his brothers, growing up and finally walking to and from school with them and Marie Henderson the boys’ honorary sister. When Nate was in fourth grade he began learning the cello and excelled, winning the best Musician’s award in 5th grade at Centreville Elementary. Nate and his brother Don performed together throughout elementary, middle and high school, playing in contests and their high school orchestra at Westfield High. They also took a Classical guitar class together and performed together with Westfield’s Orchestra on guitars.
Nate grew up attending Fairfax Church of Christ, participating in youth group activities and volunteering and participating as a camper at Camp WAMAVA in the summers, mission trips to Nashville and many youth retreats. He said a couple of weeks ago that those times were his favorite memories
After Nate graduated from Westfield high school, he went to college for a semester and then went into the electrical Union, where he worked his way up to journeyman. After he left the union, Nate worked as an electrician, honing his craft, excelling in leadership and developing schematics. Nate, a licensed electrician, often fixed electrical problems for friends and family, often on his days off.
Nate loved his family, especially his nephews and niece, and his three older brothers and their wive, and Marie and AJ Guagenti, who we claim as family—Marie was a sister to our boys growing up.. He told me more than once that he and Kate Horan were still really good friends, though they have been separated. He also loved and missed Kate’s mom and brothers.
He also loved his dog Henry and walked him for miles every day, his dog Harvey that he and Kate rescued from hurricane Harvey, and his dog Rigby.. He was a hard worker, faithfully executing his job, including the day he died. In the past several months, Nate suffered a another serious head injury, a small stroke and other health challenges. We are broken-hearted that he left this life at the age of 37. His family will miss him as long as we live.
Nate is survived by his former wife, Kate, from Richmond, his parents, Don and Jerri Harrington from Centreville, VA, His brother Chris, his wife, Cameron, their son Conner, from Richmond, VA, his brother Steven from Centreville, and his brother Don, his wife Elise and their children Hazel and Desmond who live in Warrenton, VA., and Marie and AJ Guagenti and their children , Andrea, Anthony and Abby. He is also survived by his maternal grandmother, Neta Sisk from Lone Wolf, Oklahoma.and his cousin, Ansel Rankin-Sisk, with the United States Marines stationed at Camp Pendleton.

Our families have been friends for close to 30 years. We saw Nathan grow. Our hearts hurt with his sudden departure. We are praying for peace that surpasses any understanding and for Comfort that only God can give.

I sit here crying for my old friend and neighbor, Nathan. Nate Dawg. I always loved hanging out with you and your brothers. Singing carols in minor keys at Christmas parties, the winter camping trips. Random interactions, living right next door. I am gutted to hear about this. Nathan had a good heart and I loved him.
I wish so badly that I could grieve with you, Harringtons. You’ve all been like family for decades. There’s only one thing that could possibly keep me here. Hopefully I can see you all soon and we can grieve together then.
