Patricia Lee Alumbaugh
October 31, 1930 ~ March 1, 2023
Patricia Lee (White) Alumbaugh, age 92, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2023 at the English Meadows Assisted Living facility in Blacksburg, VA following a battle with cancer. Patricia was born in Palestine, Illinois on October 31, 1930, to the late Everett and Nora White.
Patricia attended elementary and high school in her home town of Palestine, Illinois. At 19 years of age, she married the love of her life, Lester E. Alumbaugh, and they left immediately to begin his aviation career in the United States Air Force.
Becoming an Air Force wife and traveling with her husband brought her tremendous joy. Their assignments took them to many locations in the United States and abroad. As a supportive military wife, she embraced the aspects of their life and hosted many social gatherings as an officer’s wife. During her husband’s deployment to Vietnam, she was a steading force for her two children during his absence.
Upon her husband’s retirement from the Air Force, the couple relocated to Vienna, VA where her husband began another career as an air traffic controller with the Federal Aviation Administration. They spent the remainder of their marriage; a marriage that span 58 years in Vienna. After many years of travel and relocating, they felt as though this was home. They developed loving and long-lasting friendships with their neighbors in Shouse Village. After her husband’s passing, Patricia remained a part of this neighborhood for another 14 years before making the decision to move into an assisted living facility near her son and daughter-in-law in Blacksburg, VA.
Patricia was a loyal and loving human. She enjoyed every phase of her life and found good in even the hardest of times. Even when faced with her terminal diagnosis, she was stoic and leaned on her faith and appreciation of a long, beautiful life. She was an exemplary example of a “glass half full” person. Her smile was infectious. She loved her family, her neighbors, and her church; Christ Church, Vienna.
Patricia is preceded in death by her husband, Lester E. Alumbaugh, her forever love. She is survived by her son Gregory L. Alumbaugh (Linda) of Christiansburg, VA and daughter, Julie L. Roberson (Ron) of Sterling, VA. She is survived by her grandchildren, Rachel Martin (Josh), Jamison McGlothlin (Jennifer) and Michael Roberson (Tiffany) and her great-grandchildren, Amelita Martin, Arannah Martin, Connor McGlothlin, Zac McGlothlin, Kaiden S. Mason and Kase A. Roberson.
