Phyllis R. Talley
July 30, 1934 ~ May 31, 2023
Phyllis R. Talley, of Fairfax, VA, and formerly of McLean, VA, died on May 31, 2023, after a brief illness. She was predeceased by her darling husband of 52 years, Samuel H. "Bud" Talley. Survived by her daughter, Barbara Arnone, son-in-law Michael Arnone, grandchildren Phil Arnone, Julia Hensley, and Sam Arnone, and great granddaughters Tallie Hensley and Alisa Arnone. Also survived by nephew Richard Romano, his wife Maureen, and niece Meaghan Romano.
Phyllis was raised in Solvay, NY, and graduated from Solvay High School in 1952. She then worked as an executive secretary for the Atlantic Refining Company in Syracuse in the real estate acquisition department.
Phyllis and Bud were married in 1961, beginning a long and happy marriage centered around their family, home, and love of travel. Phyllis & Bud traveled the world, thoroughly exploring 5 continents. They were avid skiers who especially loved Big Sky, Montana. Their favorite spot was Big Moose Lake, NY, where they had many family vacations and where they honeymooned.
Phyllis was a happy homemaker and belonged to many social and community groups including McLean Postcomers and the Northern Virginia Women’s Social Club, where she had many friends. Phyllis was also an avid and exceptional bridge player, having achieved Bronze Life Master status.
In the 1990s Phyllis returned to work in dress sales at Lord & Taylor where she won numerous awards for her outstanding sales performance and customer service.
She lost her beloved Bud in 2013.
Phyllis was known for her strength of character, her friendliness, intelligence, and outspokenness. She was fiercely devoted to her family and friends and was always her true self. She lived her life in dignity and peace.
She is irreplaceable and deeply missed.

Warm hearted, warm spirited and with a positive attitude, Phyllis was the kind of woman we all wanted for a friend. Her obvious love of people and of life will be remembered and she will be missed by all who knew her.
Phyllis, Barb, and I were voting buddies. We always went “out to eat” together, after doing our civic duty! Phyllis was such a wonderful, fun woman – to be with. Such a great lady – and raised such a sweet girl – Barb… Barb and I have been neighborhood friends since 1989.
My love to Barb, Mick, Phil, Julia, and Sam… Wish that I could do more to comfort you.
Phyllis and I met in Syracuse when our husbands were in graduate school. I have many good memories of our times together over many years, in Syracuse, in Maine and in Northern Virginia. Our family has enjoyed vacations at Big Moose Lake after the Talleys told us about that wonderful retreat. We had many great meals at her dinner parties and her recipe for sauerbraten has been shared with many who found it the best they ever had.
I spoke with her a few months ago and was thinking of calling her again when I got the sad news of her death.
