Raymond Salgado of Vienna, Virginia passed away on May 22nd, 2023, after a long battle with emphysema and complications of COVID.
Raymond was born on May 16th, 1939, to Juan Antonio and Roselia Salgado in Eccles, West Virginia.
After high school graduation, he attended beauty school in Bluefield, West Virginia where he and his wife met.
Raymond and his new wife, Joyce, married on December 25th, 1960, came to Northern Virginia on December 28th, 1960 and established a business.
He enjoyed a 56 year-long career with many wonderful clients. He was a very popular hairstylist.
He loved fishing, hunting, reading, and art.
Raymond was very active at Vienna Baptist Church for more than 50 years. He was a greeter, usher, teller, trustee, coffee maker and any other jobs that needed to be done. He welcomed everyone with a big smile, handshake, hug or a silly joke.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Roselia Salgado; his brother, Santos Salgado (Cora); and his sisters, Marianna Hatcher (Howard) and Rose Wills (Gene).
Raymond is survived by his loving wife of almost 63 years, Joyce Salgado; amazing children, Tony Salgado (Elizabeth) and Lita Salgado; wonderful grandchildren, Danielle Cuppett, Robert Salgado, Ted Salgado, and Elena Salgado; extra grandchildren, Jonathan Price (Isabella), Lisa LaMountain (Duane), and Aviana LaMountain; grand-doggie, Max; and devoted siblings, Lita Totten (Daniel) and Carmen Mitchem (Ron).
Raymond cherished his Marsh Fork high school classmates and was still in touch with many. He leaves to mourn him many wonderful friends and neighbors.

I cherish my memories of being friends with your family at Vienna Baptist. I remember the times my family and yours would sometimes go out to lunch after church together.
Raymond was like my second Dad. I will miss him. Love Jill
Rest in peace Raymond. You are and always will be one of my favorite people in the whole world. It is an honor having you as my brother-in-law. We will miss you so much but you will live in our hearts forever.
I have so many great memories of Mr. Salgado while growing up at VBC. From 1st grade Sunday School lessons, to year-after-year of Living Nativities, and from drama productions, to years of Ushering together. We could always count on Mr. Salgado to be there and to say the prayer. He was truly a cornerstone of Vienna Baptist Church and a blessing to so many. The Salgados were great ambassadors of VBC and their faith and we pray for Joyce and family as we mourn a wonderful man.
We will always remember his warmth and friendly smile. He will be missed by so many.

He was a very special guy. Loved coming to your shop and hearing his stories and amazed at the two of you working side by side for so many years. He was a wonderful Christian example and will be missed.
Ray cut my hair for many years. I have fond memories of listening to the morning radio at 6 am while he cut my hair using only a straight razor and telling stories about growing up in rural WV. He was a great guy, always positive and smiling, and will truly be missed.
Mr. Salgado was truly a very good and special man. I remember when I was a teenager at VBC every Sunday he would greet me and all the youth with a hearty handshake and a friendly hello. Mr. Salgado was a talented artist, and a fun, friendly, all around great guy. Mr. Salgado will truly be missed by me and many, many others.
I came to the Vienna Baptist Church in 2001, right before I married my husband. I was not sure that it was the place for me, Mr. Salgado came and said hi, he welcome me and made me feel like I belong forever. He loved my kids and they loved him to. He will for wine in our hearts.

I was honored to know Ray tired many years from Vienna Baptist Church He and Joyce were as well friends to my mom and dad Oscar and Daisy Sessions.Ray was a sweet guy who was understated in his ways.He liked a good joke however.I was a member of VBC for over 25 years.But six years ago l moved 90 miles west to the Valley of Va.Som3times up tor a visit with my brother John l would stop by VBC for the Sunday service.The last 5ime l did l had the great pleasure of sitting next to Raymond.He looked very nice and of course he had on his western boots!They seemed to be his fashion statement!We sang together as his lovely wife was singing in the church choir to.l love Joyce and l feel her real loss of losing Raymond.May our Lord Jesus welcome him!And may Ray tind his real rest and peace in heaven above.May Joyce be comforted by His real love and comfort at this time.Much love…God bless you…6our friend…Ms.Nancy M.Sessions…Woodstock Va
Since our families lived so far away from each other, we only saw our Uncle Raymond occasionally. But he was always very warm, kind, and friendly. We were hoping to see him once more… So sorry for his immediate Salgado family’s loss.

My thoughts and prayers go out to you Aunt Joyce, and all your loving family. I will always remember when I was in 9th grade, living with Grandma in West Virginia and you all came out to visit her. Uncle Raymond gave me a haircut and blow dried my hair straight. I was so over the top thrilled! I never knew you could do that with your hair! A fond memory I will never forget.
Raymond was a fixture at VBC – always smiling, friendly and loved being a greeter/usher. Someone wrote about his boots and that’s so funny because It jarred my memory of that as well! Heaven is a bit brighter with Raymond there. Sincere condolences to the entire family- particularly Joyce. Such a loss you must be feeling but deep hope and confidence in our risen Lord and Savior. When I was little, under 5, we were at Raymond & Joyce’s and I loved their dog and would always play with it…after all, it was a Lassie dog.
Anyway, I did something naughty and Raymond went to swat my bum(as was normal back then, it was thw 70’s), THEIR dog went after Raymond! Needless to say, I didn’t get swatted and I really loved that dog after saving me…lol. I think of and tell that story often and can’t help but giggle. You are loved Raymond and will be sorely missed!!!!
