Robert "Bob" George Forbes

Robert “Bob” George Forbes, 70, of Vienna, VA peacefully passed away in his home on Saturday, July 11, 2020 with family by his side. He is survived by his beloved wife, Cecilia Engel, children Elizabeth Glotzbach (Ross), Andrew (Lacy Bowman), four grandkids that he absolutely adored, Jack, Grace, George and Charlotte, as well as siblings Karen and Craig.

He was born to Donald Forbes and Virginia Mallory on October 18, 1949 in Peoria, IL. He was a graduate of Union College in Schenectady, NY and decided to make his living in Washington, DC after graduating in 1971. It is there where he met his wife, Cecilia, of 41 years.

Bob worked for James V. Hurson Associates from 1973 until his death. But he was a dedicated husband and father first, never missing one of his kids’ sporting events - even if it meant traveling across the country to see them play in college. He also selflessly gave back to the community as president/CEO of Vienna Youth Incorporated for nearly 20 years where he oversaw major facility improvements and hundreds of thousands of dollars provided to student athletes in scholarship awards.

Arrangements will be made at Money & King Funeral Home. Due to current events, a private graveside service will be held, but a celebration of life for extended family and friends will be held at a date to be determined.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that you consider donating to the VYI Scholarship Fund in Bob’s honor.

  1. I’m so sorry for your loss. Working with Mr. Forbes for over 30 years taught me a lot about life. May he rest in peace.

  2. I played court tennis with Bob on a weekly basis for about 20 years. He was a pleasure to play with as he was always a gentleman! I will miss him. Temple Grassi

  3. We are so very sorry. Bob was a very committed father. He stopped smoking cold turkey when he read it might be harmful to his children. He emphasized sports, not only to build their bodies, but also to teach them the value of teamwork. He never condoned bad behavior, but he was always there to help them. Family was his highest priority and he worked very hard to provide the best for them and at being a role model. We love you, Bob.

  4. Cecilia, saddened to learn of Bob’s passing. Please know that your AHS classmates & friends are thinking of you and your family during this time of grief. Deepest sympathy
