Robert “Bob” Calvin Palfrey

Beloved husband, father, papa, brother, and son

Robert “Bob” Calvin Palfrey, 66, of Dunn Loring, VA, passed away on April 23, 2023, at Inova Fairfax Hospital with his wife and children by his side. Bob fought a hard battle with cancer for many years. His family cherished the extra moments they had with him, all thanks to his fighting spirit.

Bob was born on November 15, 1956, to E. Calvin “Cal” Palfrey and Dorothy “Dolly” A. (Madigan) Palfrey at Columbia Hospital in Washington, DC. After graduating from Edison High School, Bob landed his first job with Visa, kicking off his lifetime career in Information Technology. He later led teams at Maxwell Online, Hayes-Ligon/ADP, and Carfax.

Bob had two daughters, Heather and Karen, from his first marriage. In 1989, Erika met Bob, and they wed in 1997. They expanded their blended family by adding a daughter, Megan, in 1999. Bob gladly embraced two sons-in-law, Joey and Nima, in 2016, and the family was blessed with five grandchildren in the years that followed.

Bob and Erika treasured their time with family first and foremost, and enjoyed working together on their beautiful gardens, making memories at Deep Creek Lake, and escaping to the beaches of Hilton Head.

Bob was actively involved in and coached Megan in softball. Even after she retired her mitt, they would bond over watching SEC college softball. Go Gamecocks!

After retiring in 2016, Bob spent his time caring for his first granddaughter, Reagan, and soaked up all the extra family time.

Bob was preceded in death by his mother, Dolly (Madigan) Palfrey, and brother, Wayne Palfrey. Bob is survived by his wife Erika, daughters Heather (Joe) Walker, Karen (Nima) Derakhshanrokni, and Megan; grandchildren Reagan, Nico, Harper, Michaela, and Luca; father Cal; brother Pat; many dear in-laws, nieces and nephews, family and friends.

  1. Bob was a super nice guy and always smiling. He was such a pleasure to work with. We were definitely blessed to have known him. Rest in peace ? Bob…

  2. Bob always made our time together so much fun. Whether we were camping at Loft Mountain and fending off a heard of deer in the middle of the night or just goofing off at the lake. We have so many wonderful memories.

  3. Bob was a great husband, dad, grand dad, and terrific brother-in-law and uncle to our family. He’s left us with a lot of fun memories and will be missed! Love from Barbara, Rog, Bryan, and Brandon!
