Robert R. Rucks

robert rucks
Bobby Rucks of Vienna, VA died peacefully on Saturday, May 27, 2023. He is survived by his devoted wife of 33 years, Jeanne Campbell Rucks; their three children, Robert, jr., Scott, and Paige; sisters Catherine Kleifges (Kevin) of Vienna, VA and Margaret Rucks of Richmond, VA; and many nieces and nephews.

Bobby was born in Greensboro, NC on May 26, 1960. He and his family moved to Northern Virginia when he was in elementary school. He attended Thoreau Middle School and graduated from James Madison High School. He attended East Carolina University where he served as president of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity and graduated in 1984 with a degree in business.

Most of Bobby’s professional career was spent at L.F. Jennings, Inc. (LFJ), General Contractor. He began as an equipment manager and after a few years moved into project management. With perseverance and hard work, he rose through the ranks and ultimately served as president and CEO for almost 20 years. Thereafter, he served as Chairman of the Board of LFJ and dedicated his time to his family and community.

Regardless of his professional demands, Bobby always made time for his children and found ways to be involved. When they were young, he loved coaching them and as they grew up, he moved into the role of a calm yet enthusiastic spectator who never missed an event.

Throughout his life, Bobby loved spending time with his many friends on a boat or golf course, traveling the world and staying active. He was happiest spending time with his wife and sharing insight and guidance with his three children.

Bobby was a loving father, dedicated husband, and reliable friend; his generosity and kindness knew no bounds. No one was a stranger to Bobby. His contagious smile and light-hearted sense of humor brought comfort and ease to all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 8601 Wolftrap Rd, SE, Vienna, VA on Friday June 2, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. followed by a luncheon/reception at Westwood Country Club, 800 Maple Ave, E, Vienna, VA from 12:00- 2:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. I have such found memories of moving to DC 12ish years ago and meeting the Rucks family and Bobby. He had such an incredible smile and ease of operating in the world.

He made me feel very welcome and excited about what the future in DC could look like. I hope to make others around me feel as confident and comfortable as Bobby helped me to feel at an unsure time in my life.

-Becca Keith (friend of Katherine Ford)

  2. Jeanne,

So sorry to hear the news of Bobby. One of my favorite memories was more than 25 years ago on a golf trip to Santee, NC with ECU crowd. There was something that Bobby had that made it a lasting memory. I will never forget. Godspeed, Wally

  3. Bobby was one of the best leaders I have ever met in not only the construction industry, but in life. Bobby was the best at turning issues at work and in life into successful endeavors, no matter the challenge. Bobby helped me a great deal as I worked hard managing my way through learning the construction industry and handling some of life’s greatest challenges. No matter the circumstance or stress level, Bobby was always there to lend help while maintaining his composure and patience. As a young man this meant the world to me and I will always take Bobby’s memory with me in my own journey through life. Bobby has moved on, but he will live forever in the legacy and influence he has established in others. He has made such a huge impression and impact on the world and I am a better man for having been blessed with the opportunity to work and share life’s moments with him.

  4. I miss my friend Bobby. He always had a smile and a positive attitude….It’s all good as he always quipped. RIP my good friend! You will be sorely missed by many
