Virginia Rutesky Corsello of McLean, VA passed away peacefully on May 31, 2023, at age 97.

Virginia, born in Brooklyn, NY, was a first generation Ukrainian American. She graduated from Brooklyn College with a degree in education and taught second grade. After marrying Anthony, they moved to Long Island where they raised their eight children.

Her Catholic faith was central to her life and she taught religious education at St. Frances de Chantal. Virginia’s home became her classroom in Wantagh, NY where she enriched the lives of her family and neighbors. As a volunteer for 25 years, she served as a 4-H Club Leader and Sunrise Council Chairwoman.

Virginia’s boundless creativity, sense of humor, appreciation of the arts, literature, sports (Brooklyn Dodgers at Ebbets Field) and all things New York were remarkable. She was an innovative cook and cookbook author, a self-taught pianist, an artist, a composer of children’s songs and an author of children’s books.

She was the loving wife of the late Anthony M. Corsello. She treasured her eight children (their spouses), thirteen grandchildren (their spouses) and six great grandchildren. Virginia will be remembered for her immense love of family and friends, her kindness and generosity to everyone and her creativity. Her family is grateful for the thoughtful and exceptional care she received from the staff at Arleigh Burke Assisted Living.

We fondly remember her parting wishes to us all, “Happy Trails! Ti Voglio Bene! Ya Lyublyu Tebe! God Bless you, Amen!”

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. John the Beloved Catholic Church, 6420 Linway Terrace, McLean, VA on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at 10:45 am. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall. Inurnment will be at a later date.

Donations may be made to Navy Marine Coast Guard Residence Foundation, which actively supports senior living for veterans (https://www.vinsonhall.org) or Autism Society of Central Virginia in honor of her grandson Christopher (https://ascv.org).

  1. My Dear Aunt Virginia,

Thank you for allowing me to be part of your life. I will always remember you with immense love in my heart. I also know that you are now happily reunited with Uncle Tony. You both are charter members of the “greatest generation”. Please give my parents a hug when you see them and tell them that we are all okay. And to all of the Corsello’s, Godspeed to you and much love from the Colangelo’s.
