Virginia S. Davis

June 20, 1934 - February 7, 2021

Virginia Sauer Davis “Ginny” passed away peacefully on February 7, 2021 at her home in Gainesville, VA at the age of 86.

Formerly from Westfield, NJ, Ginny was born on June 20, 1934, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, to George and Gwen Sauer. She was raised in Cranford, NJ with her two sisters, Margaret and Katherine.

After graduating from The University of Colorado, Boulder in 1956 with a B.A. in History/Political Science, Ginny moved to New York City where she conducted research for the technical writers at Union Carbide.

While in New York, she met and married the love of her life, William C. Davis, Jr “Bill”. They met in 1958, married in 1959 and subsequently raised four children in Westfield, New Jersey.

Ginny was beautiful and bright, and often described as the life of the party, always loving to entertain and visit with family and friends. While raising her four children, Ginny loved playing tennis, bridge with the Westfield Bridge Club and traveling extensively with her husband, Bill.

In 1982, Ginny and Bill relocated to Fairfax, Virginia where they built a home for their family. Ginny worked at Northern Telecom where she was afforded a very flexible schedule that enabled her to spend time doing the things she was passionate about. She was an avid gardener, and an accomplished athlete in the many sports in which she participated. Besides tennis, she played basketball and loved water skiing. Her enthusiasm for both horseback riding, and swimming, including water ballet, afforded her life's challenges she enthusiastically embraced over many years.

Ginny is survived by her four children, William C. Davis, III “Trip”, (Meg), Robert L. Davis (Rena), Mary Davis Daly (Brian) and John S. Davis (Mary). She is also survived by her loving grandchildren, Cole, Brian, Emily, Brianna, Ellary and Grant, and her sister, Margaret Haviland. She is predeceased by her husband, William C. Davis, Jr., her sister Katherine Huffman and her grandson Riley Davis. Ginny was loved dearly and will be missed by all who knew her.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. I will always remember the great times the “YA Ya” girls spent together . I love seeing and talking with Ginny about her beautiful flowers and her gardening tips. Dear Sweet Neighbor, when I look out my window or drive home to my house, I will always remember and keep you in my heart and prayers. Love you, Ginny. ❤️

  2. To the entire Davis and Daly families, Rich and I send you our heartfelt condolences and remember Ginny with great affection and appreciation. xo

  3. Ginny joined the Plant family on Long Beach Island one summer for vacation in the mid 90s at the beach. She is the life of the party and we thorough enjoyed her being with us. I remember my Dad wanting to do a martini taste test with grey goose verse ketel 1 to determine which one was the best one in which we all joined in. Only Ginny and Dad got the goose right. We had a great time that night and the entire week. Our prayers for comfort are with the entire Davis family and God bless you all.
