Our hearts are heavy to announce that Vivian Alvis Sinkewiz aka Mimi passed peacefully on February 3, 2021, with her husband Giles by her side. She was born in Beckley, WV to the late James and Thelma Rea (Wolford) Alvis.

After finishing college in West Virginia, she moved to Melbourne FL in 1957. In 1981 she and Giles moved to Berwyn, PA, then to Northern Virginia in 1986 where they have resided ever since.

Mimi loved her family more than anything, and the family traditions she instilled in us will go on for years to come. She lived for traveling, entertaining, and gardening with her husband Giles beside her. She enjoyed wine, a good laugh, cared for animals and loved her Yorkies (Buffy and Sassy).

She is survived by her loving husband Giles Sinkewiz, Mother to Michael (Pam) and Gregory (Rachel) Mooney, stepmother to Scott (Kit) Sinkewiz and Susan (Mark) Mongold, Grandmother to Brandon (Karlee) and Garrett (Nazy Vaziri) Mooney, Shayna (Michael) Ignaszewski, Brittney (Trexler) Jasien, Alexis (Kyle) Magee, and Natalie (Josh) Lambert and Great-Grandmother to Carter and Cameron Ignaszweski, Pierce Jasien, and Hazel Mooney. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother James Alvis Jr.

Funeral services are being held at 12noon on February 13, 2021 at Oakton United Methodist Church with a procession to Stonewall Memory Gardens for a burial service.

In lieu of flowers a contribution to the ASPCA would be appreciated.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. My heart is so saddened by the loss of my Aunt Vivian. I know she will be missed greatly by her family. Her family was so important to her. In our telephone conversations, I would share what was going on with everyone on my end, then she would go down the line and tell me how everyone was doing on her end. I will miss her laugh when I would tell her something funny. I always enjoyed our times together. Our thoughts and prayers are with Giles, Mike & Pam, Greg & Becky and all the grandchildren. Wish we were able to be there with you all. Love – Cindy (Alvis) & Tom

  2. To Scott and Kit, Susan and Mark – Please forgive me for not sending our condolences to you, also. I know you all will have good memories of the times you spent together and will miss her greatly. Once again, please forgive me. Love Cindy (Alvis) Vance

  3. Love and prayers to Giles, Mike and Greg and family and Scott and Susan and family. We will hold closely our memories of Auntie V. I always told her she looked like my dad in the female version! She would do the Grandmommy laugh and smile! We will miss her… Love Kathy and Sully Alvis
