Walter Matthew Carl, Jr., aged 70 years old, passed away in his sleep while at home in McLean, Va., on Sunday, October 3, 2021. On his final day, he was surrounded by his family, who he adored more than anything in the world.
Walter was born in Arlington, Va, the son of Walter Carl, Sr and Laurel Potter. He and his siblings lived in various places in the United States, including Florida, Maine and Virginia, finally settling in New York. It was there where he met and married Peggy Lee in 1974 and had two children, Samantha and Matthew.
Walter was known for his intellectual curiosity, his love of reading and crossword puzzles, and his fondness for soccer. He was a genuine man, always willing to lend a helping hand. He loved to cook and was known for sharing his wonderful dishes with friends and family.
Walter is survived by Peggy, his daughter, Samanthat Carl-Yoder and her husband Daryn, and grandchildren Matthew and Juliana. Walter was preceded in death by his son Matthew.
Services to celebrate Walter's life will be held on Friday, October 15th at 2:00 PM at the Arlington Church of the Brethren. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association.
