William Bowie Abercrombie, age 63, died peacefully in his home in Ashburn, VA Sunday, August 1 surrounded by his loved ones.

Bowie was born on May 12, 1958 in Oneonta, Alabama to Everette Glenn Abercrombie and Annette Hooper Abercrombie, the second of five children.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Sydney Anne Kramar, and brother, Jim Abercombie. He is survived by his sisters, Ruth (Greg) Braun of Palm Springs, CA; Dede (Dave) Holmes of Woodbridge, VA; and his wife, Lisa Abercrombie. He also leaves behind his proudest achievements: his daughters, Juliann Abercrombie (Robbie) Winn of Ashburn, VA; Jennifer Abercrombie (Mitchell) Murray of Richmond, VA; and three grandchildren.

Additionally, Bowie was a beloved father figure to his step children: Stephanie, Kaeli, Jack (Rachael), and Anna Knight.

He moved to Vienna, VA as a teen, where he enjoyed some of his best years attending James Madison High School. He then attended college at the University of Evansville in Indiana, where he met his first wife, Brenda Harkness.

He returned to Virginia with his family where he proudly served his country supporting the Central Intelligence Agency. Well spoken and hard working, he was a respected colleague and team leader.

Those who knew Bowie knew of his love for music, whether he was playing guitar, enjoying live music at a local winery, or simply singing a conversation.

Bowie was a man of faith and an active member of his men’s Bible study group. Though he traveled the world, he cherished weekends at home working on projects with his wife, Lisa, the most. He did his part to keep the local Home Depot in business. Bowie leaves behind a legacy of generosity, humility, and humor.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 7 at Money & King in Vienna, VA 171 W. Maple Ave., Vienna, VA. Family will greet visitors during a viewing from 10am-12pm, followed by a service from 12-1pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the NicaWorks Orphanage in Nicaragua, where Bowie traveled and served.
