Aida J. Samaha
October 27, 1930 ~ December 25, 2024
It is with profound sadness and great love that we announce the passing of our beloved matriarch, Aida Samaha, on Christmas Day. Surrounded by her adoring family, Aida departed peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of grace, love, and strength. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose unwavering kindness and wisdom touched all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Born in 1930 in Palestine, Aida Serafim grew up during a time of immense change and challenge. In 1948, amidst the loss of their home and the Nakba, she relocated to Beirut, Lebanon, with her parents, Toufic and Rose, and her cherished sister, Salwa, who still resides in Beirut. Aida’s journey of resilience and adaptability was evident throughout her life as she embraced each new chapter with dignity and determination.
In 1954, Aida married the love of her life, John Samaha, after a chance meeting while working at KLM Airlines. Their union was marked by a profound bond that spanned decades, forming the foundation of a beautiful family. Together, they raised four sons—Fadi, Fouad, Ramzi, and Jean-Paul—instilling in them the values of compassion, perseverance, and unity.
Amid the turbulence of the Lebanese Civil War, the Samaha family made the courageous decision to seek a new life in the United States in 1976, settling in the Washington, D.C. area. There, Aida continued to shine, building a successful career as a trusted assistant to the Vice President of the World Bank, where she dedicated over two decades of service. Her professionalism and integrity earned her the admiration and respect of colleagues and peers alike.
Aida’s life was defined by her boundless love for her family and friends. She was a steadfast pillar of support, an anchor in times of uncertainty, and a source of boundless warmth and wisdom. Her home was always open, her table always welcoming, and her heart always full. Her generosity of spirit extended far beyond her immediate family, touching the lives of countless friends and acquaintances who cherished her presence.
She is survived by her beloved sister, Salwa; her four sons; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a vast network of extended family and dear friends whose lives she enriched beyond measure. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her, serving as a beacon of love, resilience, and grace.
Aida Samaha’s remarkable journey of 94 years reminds us of the power of kindness, the strength of family, and the enduring impact of a life well lived. She will be deeply missed but forever celebrated.
May her soul rest in eternal peace.
