Alan Farrell Jensen
May 11, 1966 ~ December 9, 2021
Alan Farrell Jensen (Age 55) was born on May 11, 1966 in Independence, MO to Farrell and Virginia Jensen. Alan passed away from apparent heart failure at his home on December 9, 2021 in Great Falls, VA.
Alan lived in many places growing up and enjoyed the adventure. Alan lived in North Brunswick, NJ and Broomall, PA before graduating high school in Orem, UT. Alan loved to play basketball and soccer. He played soccer and JV basketball at Marple Newton High School. At Orem High School, Alan's soccer team was undefeated and went to the state championship game his senior year. Alan also loved the debate team at Orem High. The rigor of that training stayed with him. He was passionate about well-reasoned debates. You could not give him a bogus argument, and if you started one you'd better be prepared to see it through.
Alan was a seeker of knowledge and truth. He chose to earn a BA in Economics from Brigham Young University. Alan continued his education at Michigan State University with a Master of Economics. His love for education and learning led him to the University of Missouri, Kansas City, where he earned his law degree. Alan's career started at the Pacific Institute of Research and Analysis, followed by the US Export Import Bank, then Zurich. Alan worked at Vantage, where he was an insurance underwriter specializing in political risk and credit. His colleagues describe him as insightful, quick-witted, and an expert in making up his own aphorisms. He saw the benefit of taking chances and the value of learning from adversity. Rather than becoming frustrated, he loved to observe a comedy of errors. An avid cyclist, he could see the humor and opportunity that came in blowing a tire deep in a ride. He used his humor to get people laughing during difficult situations and at themselves.
Alan started his professional life in the DC area where he met his wife, Mindy. Alan and Mindy were married in 1998. They have two children: Grant, 16, and Cole, 14. Alan's devotion to his family was deep and sincere. He was most happy watching Grant and Cole play soccer, lacrosse, and running cross country or hanging out with them at home. Alan found joy in coaching his kids' basketball teams. Alan loved playing guitar, scuba diving with Mindy, cycling with friends, and kayaking with his sons and dogs. Alan was an avid animal lover and seemed to always have multiple pets. He considered his crowning dog training achievement to be teaching Simon to bark and dance to The Police's "Too Much Information."
Alan was sensitive to others' needs. Those close to Alan valued his ability to listen and understand their perspective. He gave you his full attention and made you feel like you were the only thing that mattered at that moment. Alan always had something to say, and he was always a straight shooter. Alan was known for his quick wit and fun, goofy nature. He always created humor in the everyday moments of life. His smile and laugh were truly infectious.
Alan is survived by his wife, Melinda Mecham Jensen; his sons, Grant Alan and Cole Farrell Jensen; his parents, Virginia and Farrell Jensen; and his siblings, Kimber, Brenden, and Sandra (Hofheins). Funeral service will be Saturday, December 18, 2021 at 11 a.m. (1632 Crowell Rd, Vienna, VA 22182) with reception to follow. Virtual option to attend: Please Click Here
