ALETHA ANNE (MOORE) MARSHALL

Early Sunday, August 18, 2024 Anne went to be with her Lord. She is survived by her daughter Jill Anne (Timothy) Hecht, grandchildren Robert David (Lea), Hannah Susanne and Holly Grace Hecht, nieces, nephews and dearest dog Roxie. She is predeceased by her beloved husband of 58 years, Bruce Cameron Marshall, her brother Chester Lee Moore, sister Patsy Newell and her parents.

Anne was born in Clinton, Missouri to Roy Nivens Moore and Courtney Lee (Smith) Moore on June 26, 1935. She was raised on the Roy Moore Dairy Farm and had a delightful childhood surrounded by dogs, cats and ponies. She graduated Clinton High School and treasured her reunions with the class of 1953. After earning her BA from the University of Missouri, she flew domestic and international trips with Braniff Airlines as a stewardess. She met Bruce in San Diego, and after a quick romance they married in Hong Kong, a port call of the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown. She later received her degree in Travel and Tourism and loved an exciting career as a travel agent. She returned as a flight attendant to fly with the Shillelagh Travel Club.

Anne was a devoted Navy wife creating a warm and loving home with each cross country move. She was a hostess extraordinaire with squadron families, bridge group, book club, a variety of church groups and her favorite neighborhood New Years Eve late-night party with dancing and breakfast casserole. At Ashby Ponds she was always ready with appetizers and prosecco for happy hour before dinner with friends. Her real joy came from the many hours she spent with Jill and pride she had as a grandmother. She treasured attending games, school activities and special events with her grandchildren and was affectionately known to many as MieMie.

Her most cherished hobbies were traveling, shopping and gathering friends. She was kind and always available to offer support and love. Anne enjoyed retirement living at Ashby Ponds. Her last year was at Sunrise Vienna Reminiscence, closer to her family. She quickly bonded with her loving caregivers and cherished their “girl time”.

Anne’s viewing will be held Friday, August 23 at 10:00am until time of funeral at 11:00am at St. Matthews Methodist Church, 8617 Little River Turnpike, Annandale, VA. Colorful attire encouraged. Burial will be scheduled at Arlington National Cemetery. Flowers may be sent to St. Matthew’s Methodist Church, or memorial donations made to St. Matthews Methodist Church, Ashby Ponds Scholar’s Fund or Homeward Trails Animal Rescue.
