Alice Glasser Kinter, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2023 at her home in Oakton, Virginia, in her 107th year of life. She was born on October 12, 1916 in Marion Center, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Charles Frederick Glasser and Nora Blanche (Frech) Glasser.
Alice was an elementary school teacher by profession, starting her career shortly after graduating from Marion Center High School in 1933. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1940 from the Indiana Teachers College in Indiana, Pennsylvania and a Master of Education degree in 1946 from the University of Pittsburgh, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She married Lynn S. Kinter on June 21, 1947 in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania. The family located in Lake County, Ohio and subsequently moved to Sewickley, Pennsylvania in 1950. In 1953, the family came to Virginia, first settling in Arlington and later moving to Falls Church. Alice continued to teach elementary school until her retirement in 1980. Following their retirements, Lynn and Alice moved to Oakton in 1976.
Throughout her life, Alice was a passionate proponent of education, ensuring that all three of her children graduated from college. Alice believed in volunteering and giving back to her community and her church. She was an involved member of Resurrection Evangelical Lutheran Church in Arlington for over 65 years, teaching Sunday School and participating in WELCA Circle activities. A staunch Republican, Alice held leadership positions in the Mamie Eisenhower Republican Women’s Club. She was also active in the Oakton Women’s Club for many years. Two years ago, when asked what contributed to her longevity, Alice responded, “Following the Lord, doing good to others, and obeying my parents.”
Alice was predeceased by her husband, Lynn S. Kinter, son Robert L. Kinter, brother Earl L. Glasser and sister Florence Shank. She is survived by her daughter Barbara Kunkel (Dennis), in West Bloomfield, Michigan; son William T. Kinter (Marci) of Oakton, VA; brother Charles R. Glasser (Doris), Marion Center; sister Freida Dick, York, Pennsylvania; five grandchildren (Jennifer, Crista, Cara, Christopher, Melissa); and seven great-grandchildren (Weston, Quinn, Meghan, Lucas, Kayleigh, Ava, Austin). Visitation will be held October 14 from 1 to 2 PM at Money and King Funeral Home in Vienna, Virginia, with funeral services immediately following. For those unable to join in person, the service will be livestreamed via the link below. Interment will be at National Memorial Park in Falls Church, Virginia. We send our sympathy to Alice’s family. We admired her tenacity and longevity and enjoyed knowing she was able to remain in her home in our neighborhood.
Elaine Van Leer Balue
I wish to send my sincere condolences following the reading of your mothers passing. I immediately knew she had been a classmate of my father, Valgene Van Leer, class of 1933 Marion Center HS. What a blessing to have enjoyed having your mother in your life for so many amazing years. Your fathers name is familiar but there are so many Kinter’s. I live in Indiana, PA. Would you be interested in any memorability I may have from Class of 1933? I know I have the class picture and possibly a couple of reunions. I am on Facebook messenger and my email is evbalue@verizon.net. May God bless your family. 🙏
