December 13, 1936 ~ February 24, 2024
Born in:
North Stratford, NH
Resided in:
Vienna, VA
Anna Jane Kearney passed away peacefully on February 24, 2024 at home
with her family by her side, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She
was 87.
Anna was born in North Stratford, NH, on Dec 13, 1936, where she grew up
on a dairy farm. Following high school, she moved to Washington, DC, to pursue a
career with the Government. There she met her husband of the next 67 years,
Arthur James Kearney.
Anna’s and Arthur’s government jobs sent them on tours around the world,
where they lived abroad in Japan, Cyprus, Okinawa, and Germany. Later, Anna
and Art settled in Vienna, Virginia and raised three children: Lisa Kearney Owens
of Madison, VA; Christopher John Kearney of Centreville, VA; and Robert James
Kearney of Sterling, VA.
Anna was widely admired for her beauty and elegance but always
considered herself a farmer. She was an accomplished gardener and enjoyed
many hours working out in her yard with her forty-plus azaleas, each one
stunning.
She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed playing in several different
leagues throughout the Vienna/ Fairfax/ Reston area. Anna was a 55-year
member of Vienna Woods Swim & Tennis Club. She enjoyed walking laps in the
pool and taking water aerobics classes.
Anna Jane Kearney is survived by her three children; her husband, Arthur
James Kearney; sister, Wilma Pearl McMann of Greenbelt, Maryland; eight
grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. All will miss her world-class
chocolate chip and Christmas cookies.
