Anne MacDevitt Purcell, 94, a devoted wife and mother and a lifelong Washington DC area resident died March 7, 2018, due to natural causes, in Herndon, Virginia.
Mrs. Purcell was born September 25, 1923 in Washington D. C. She graduated from St. Patrick’s Catholic High School in 1942. During World War II she was active in the USO stateside.
She married Edward E. Purcell, Jr. in 1951 and they moved to Vienna in 1960 to raise their six children. Anne was active in the Catholic community as well as the Ladies Auxiliary of the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department. Mrs. Purcell held positions at the Social Security Administration and the family owned business PTI Communications.
She was predeceased by her husband, her daughter Dr. Rita Purcell-Robertson of Clifton, Va., and her grandson, Patrick R. Purcell of Herndon, VA. She is survived by a son Edward E. Purcell, III, of Hollywood, Maryland; a daughter Anne P. Clark (John) of Burke, Va.; a son Patrick J. Purcell (Janita), of Oakton, Virginia; a son Daniel F. Purcell, Sr., (Jennifer) of Stafford, Va.; a son Michael E. Purcell, (Margaret) of Ashburn, Va., 11 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, son-in-law Norman L. Robertson of Clifton, Va. and sister-in-law, Margaret Greenwell of Washington, D. C.
Visitation to be held on Friday, April 6th at 11:00am at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 11900 Lawyers Rd, Reston, VA 20191, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00pm. Internment at Quantico National Cemetery, 18424 Joplin Rd, Triangle, VA 22172 at 2:00pm.
