Arthur Carl Barletta
September 26, 1923 ~ November 10, 2014
Arthur Carl Barletta, M.D. peacefully entered into eternal life on November 10, 2014 at Fairfax Hospital. He was born September 26, 1923, and was the third child of Catherine and Thomas Barletta. He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Isabella Anne, and their three loving children: Isabella Funari, DMD, her husband Gary J. Funari, DMD, and their children Katharine and Mark; Arthur P. Barletta, MD, his wife Ann and their children Arthur and Annie; and Kathryn Hollis, her husband Jeff and their daughters Gracie and Caroline. He is also survived by his sister, Betty Garcia, widow of Manuel and their four daughters.
Arthur received a Bachelor of Science degree Magna Cum Laude from Seton Hall University after serving the United States Army in World War II. He fought on
the Anzio beachhead. After returning stateside he then continued his education pursuing a medical degree at Georgetown University. During his internship he met and married Isabella and became a Family practitioner. After nine years, he
completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Arthur was a devout Catholic and his medical practice was both his vocation and his avocation. He was a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a
Diplomat of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He was a staff physician at St. Elizabeth, Elizabeth General, and Alexian Brothers hospitals in Elizabeth New Jersey. He was solo in private practice until he joined a group
of partners to be able to spend more time with his family. They became enthusiastic boaters spending weekends on the Jersey Shore. After retiring from
private practice in 1998, he became a Director of the HMO Division at Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey for five years.
During his medical career he was a volunteer at St. Walburgas Orphanage and a volunteer school physician for the Elizabeth New Jersey Board of Education. He
was ale an assistant professor of OB/GYN at the New Jersey College of medicine and Dentistry. Dr. And Mrs. Barletta were active in the formation of parent
associations at both the undergraduate and medical colleges at Georgetown.
The family will receive friends at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 8213 Linton Hall Road, Gainesville, Virginia, at 12:30 p.m. and a Funeral Mass in celebration of his life will begin at 1:00 p.m.
