Barbara Burke O’Connor of Great Falls, VA passed away on April 5, 2018. Loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many.

Preceded in death by her parents Robert and Patricia Burke, her brother Robert Dennis Burke and her nephew Robert Emmett Burke.

Survived by her beloved husband of 61 years George Peter O’Connor; her sister and best friend Janine Burke; sons and daughters in law Peter James and Debbie O’Connor, Bob and Amy O’Connor, Brian and Alice O’Connor, Mark and Sarah O’Connor; grandson Sean and his wife Nicole O’Connor and their children Madison and Adian; grandson Christopher O’Connor; granddaughter Bridgette O’Connor and Rodney Delcastillo and their children Hailey and Amber; grandson Mark O’Connor Jr; granddaughter Allison O’Connor; and grandson Christian O’Connor.

Barbara was born in Cleveland Ohio and lived there until graduating High School and marrying her husband Peter, from Lakewood Ohio, an Air Force aviator. Barbara led a full, exciting and busy life as the wife of an Air Force officer. Early in her marriage, Barbara volunteered as a Red Cross Gray Lady while stationed in Japan. Barbara and Peter next moved to Peru, Indiana when Peter was stationed at Grissom Air Force Base where they were raising four young sons. Barbara volunteered as a librarian at St. Charles Catholic School, met her dearest lifetime friend, Barbara Brandt, and spent the last eighteen months in Peru raising four boys by herself while Peter served in South East Asia (Viet Nam conflict). Barbara and Peter moved to New Carrollton MD when Peter was assigned to work at the Pentagon. Barbara began her professional career working as office worker for ophthalmology practices, working her way up to office manager. Barbara and Peter moved to Great Falls, VA in 1979

and Barbara completed a 35+ year career and entered retirement with Peter. Barbara enjoyed traveling with family to Ireland, cruising the Caribbean Islands and Alaska. She enjoyed vacationing with family in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, North and South Carolina, Florida and Virginia. Barbara was kind, generous and thoughtful. She never missed acknowledging a birthday, anniversary or holiday. She loved all of her family and will be sadly missed yet lovingly remembered.

Service will be held April 16 at 11 am at Saint John Neumann, Reston, VA.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to American Heart Association.
