Barbara Jean Hamilton
December 8, 1944 ~ March 31, 2023
Barbara Jean Hamilton, age 78 of Clifton, Virginia died peacefully in her home on March 31, 2023. Barbara was born in Leesburg, Virginia on December 8, 1944.
Much of her mother's family lived in Great Falls, so after her father's return from WWII, her parents built a home there. She and her younger brother, Gary, spent many happy years growing up around their cousins, uncles, and grandparents. Barbara later attended Herndon High School before starting her own family.
Over the years Barbara had a variety of interests, many of which she shared with her husband Roy. They both enjoyed traveling, classic car shows, the Redskins, riding their Harleys, and family get-togethers at Christmas and the Fourth of July. Barbara was a huge Elvis fan and attended many of his concerts. Her greatest loves were her life in Christ and time spent with her grandchildren. She especially enjoyed dressing in her Sunday best to attend church wearing one of many beautiful outfits, accented by her colorful high-heeled shoes...and usually with a couple grandkids in tow. She loved children and worked for Fairfax County Public Schools as a school bus driver for 30 years until her retirement in 2008. Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and mentor and will be greatly missed by many.
Barbara is survived by her children Rick Powers (Erika), Lisa Sampson (Tom), and their children Dominic Powers, Nicholas Powers, Garrett Sampson, and Hallie Sampson. A stepdaughter Debbie Fenton (Donnie) survives along with her children Daniel Fenton and Kelly Taylor. Also surviving is her younger brother Gary Clark (Pat). Barbara was predeceased by her parents Willard and Margaret Clark, her husband Roy Hamilton, and a stepson John Hamilton. Grandchildren Dylan and Jenna Hamilton survive and were close to Barb's heart, as she and Roy enjoyed babysitting them when they were little.
Visitation for Barbara will be held Thursday, April 6th at 11 a.m. at Money and King Funeral Home in Vienna followed by a 12 p.m. Memorial Service. Burial will be at Arnon Cemetery in Great Falls following the service. The family asks that any donations in her memory be made to Colchester Freewill Baptist in Nokesville where Barbara was a member for many years.

I met Barbara in HiltonHead SC while she was staying at her brothers home. She was a sweet, beautiful, gracious lady!!! She will be missed by so many of us. It was such a pleasure to know her as a beautiful friend! Till we all meet in Heaven again, May you rest in peace with Jesus! Love and prayers are sent all the way from North Carolina to your dear children and grandchildren!
Love,
Margaret Carpender
Q: What will you never forget about Barbara?
A: My name is Gary Clark Jr. Barbara Hamilton is my aunt. I will never forget how much love she had for me when I was incarcerated. She was very mad at first but she loved me and made sure that I had everything I needed to get though. I am very thankful for her and she will greatly be missed. Love you Aunt Barbara.
So sorry to learn of the passing of Barbara. We enjoyed visiting with her on Sundays before church began.

My grandma was my best friend. I will miss her tremendously. This is my favorite picture of my mom, grandma, and great grandma on her wedding day to my granddaddy. I find solace knowing my grandma, granddaddy, and great grandma are together again.
Barbara and I met driving a school bus for Fairfax County. We had many laughs and good times. I remember our trip to Memphis, the dinner on the riverboat, Graceland.
I called her Barby Doll. She told me you are the only one I will allow to call me that. She asked”why do you call me that?” Easy… your all legs and blond.
You were loved and will be greatly missed. Rest easy my dear friend.
Barbara was officially my cousin but was also my next-door neighbor. Our mothers were sisters, and two of the nicest women that ever lived. (I can honestly say Aunt Margaret was my favorite aunt; always sent me a Christmas card.) Since Barbara lived at 650 Walker Road and we lived at 640, (only separated by Arnon Chapel Cemetery), she and her brother Gary would visit us so often, I gained another sister and brother. My earliest memory of the Clark family is seeking shelter there when my grandfather Roy Presgraves’ barn caught on fire. I must have been only 1-2 years old, so Barbara was about 5-6. I vividly remember laughing with Barbara and Gary on Saturday mornings while we watched cartoons together. I can see Barbara and my sister Patsy huddled together reading teenage magazines while Gary and I played outside.
Barbara was always a devoted daughter and niece, and she grew into a beautiful woman. She had her share of hard times, like we all do, but rose above them to become an excellent mother and an accomplished adult. I will always cherish her sharing about my mother, Louise Ellmore, at her funeral; it was the most perfect, humorous, warm, and loving tribute, and I will never forget it, or her unique skill in writing it so well. Those words can be used to describe Barbara as well.
Barbara, rest well and know that you were loved. May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Ronnie, thank you for your beautiful tribute to my mother. I would love to have a copy of her tribute to Aunt Louise, if you have it.
Barbra came into my life when she married my father. She became a mother to me and thought of me as one of her own children. She was a strong woman that always spoke her mind. She never beat around the bush. If she had something to say good or bad, she would say it. You always knew where you stood with her, which is one of the many things I loved about her. Barb, was big on sending cards for occasions, such as birthdays, Christmas, ECT. My children, (her step grandchildren. and great grandchildren) would always receive cards from her. After the passing of my father, her beloved Roy, we made it a point to meet regularly once a month for lunch to catch up. We also stayed in touch by phone regularly. I have many letters and cards that she has sent me over the years that I will cherish forever. she was such a great mother to me and grandmother to my children, and we will miss her dearly.
Barbara,
We are saddened to say our last goodbye to you.
The Delgado family will always be grateful for your kindness and love towards all of us. You were kind enough to open your home to our family and to take us as if we were your own.
I can’t help to remember those wonderful moments we had in your house celebrating the holidays. Especially, the water games during the Fourth of July party. The “battle” trying to get Rick and John wet and into the pool. After a couple of years attending the party, I realized that the only safe place to stay to avoid getting wet, was to sit next to Mrs. Clark. Sometimes that didn’t even worked.
You leave us with many good and happy memories.
Until we meet again.
PS. Give a hug and a kiss to Roy, Mr. Clark, Mrs. Clark and John.

I met Barbara 30 years ago when I was dating her son Rick Powers, who is my loving
husband. These years were full of wonderful memories that captured Barbara’s essence
very well. Loving and funny moments, family gatherings, and of course, shopping
adventures trips.
Barbara always showed love, kindness, and generosity. Her kindness and hospitality made
people feel welcome, and part of her family. I remember when she met my parents for the
first time, and she treated them like she knew them for a long time. That made me admire
her more. 🙂
Family was an important part of Barbara’s life. Every year, the whole family got together at
her house to celebrate Thanksgivings and Christmas. My sons, Dominic and Nicholas,
enjoyed those family moments, especially the Black Friday trips to the mall with grandma.
Through her leadership and loving character, she was able to maintain family unity, and
fraternity among her children and grandchildren. She encouraged her loved ones to
accomplish their goals and to be successful in life by being a model in organization,
punctuality and discipline.
I will miss my dear friend, mother-in-law and mentor very much. She leaves an empty space
in my life, and the life of my husband Rick, and my sons, Dominic and Nicholas.
