Born in:
New Haven, Connecticut

Barbara Phyllis Irene Marzigliano passed away January 14, 2025 just shy of 88 years young. Barbara was born in, New Haven, Connecticut and had fond memories of growing up there.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents Louis and Marion Rapuano, and her beloved older sister, soulmate and partner in crime, Lorraine Cuomo.
Barbara was the beloved and devoted wife of 67 years to Dominick; dear mother of MaryAnn Skyler and Carolyn Holden (Kevin), and grandmother to the pride and joys of her life, Dustin Robert, Jordan Louisa & Connor Jon Skyler, and Zachary Dominick Holden. She also leaves behind her beloved siblings Patricia Evans (the late Edward), Linda Dirr (Joe), Robert Rapuano (Ann) and Louis Rapuano (Christine), as well as many nieces and nephews.
Barbara’s childhood in Connecticut was joyous due to growing up surrounded by grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. Her family then moved to New York City, a few blocks away from Yankee Stadium, where they could hear the crowds cheering from their front steps. One of Barbara’s happiest memories was winning an essay contest and being invited to a dinner to meet Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle and Yogi Bera. She loved her Yankees and had an extensive baseball card collection which she cherished.
Barbara’s devotion to and love of the Blessed Virgin Mary began during her Catholic elementary school years and her attendance at the prestigious Cathedral High School. Her graduating class commencement was at the iconic St Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City. Upon graduation, she embarked on a career at Prudential Insurance, which she was very proud of.
The Love Story that is Barbara and Dom began when an adorable 19-year old, hardworking, loving and loyal Dominick met the incomparable, beautiful, intelligent and dynamic Barbara when he drove up in his fancy new car – very unusual in those days! Their marriage in 1958 was a glorious day filled with sunshine and her neighbor yelling out of her window: “you’ve got a beautiful day!” That beautiful day turned out to be a beautiful life.
Barbara’s favorite years were those spent living in the Village of Farmingdale where Barbara enjoyed her husband, girls, oil painting, working in her gardens, decorating, taking care of their home to white glove perfection and entertaining family for the holidays. After 65 years as northerners, Barbara and Dom embarked on a journey to Northern Virginia in 2002 to be closer to their grandchildren. Retirement years were full of happiness as they immersed themselves in their grandchildren’s activities.
Barbara and Dom’s love story carried on just 3 months short of their 67th anniversary. Dominick was tirelessly devoted to making Barbara as comfortable and secure as possible through her last earthly year. They are a testament to what love and marriage should be. That is quite a legacy to leave behind.
