Bette Lue Brandon Lowry, died at home in McLean, Va., at the age of 88. Born in Little Rock, AR to Gladys Neal and Benton Douglas Brandon. Preceded in death by her loving husband, Everett E. (Ed) Lowry, Jr., Colonel(Retired) US Army. Devoted to her church, St. Johns Episcopal Church in McLean, Va and was proud to have been both the first woman elected to the Vestry and the first female Senior Warden at St. Johns. Volunteering in the community was important to Bette Lue as represented by her volunteering at the War Department during WWII while attending Marjorie Webster College in Wahington, DC and later as she led Brownies, Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts. She was also a teachers assistant at Langley High School, a needlepoint artist, bridge player and avid golfer at Army Navy Country Club. She is remembered as a gracious, lively, fun loving and creative woman. Her memory is cherished by family, friends and many others whose lives she touched.

Bette Lue is survived by six children and seven grandchildren, Lyn Lowry of Tacoma Park, MD, Ayn Lowry of Berkley, CA, Caole Lowry of Grand Junction, CO, Jane Lowry of Azuza, CA, Robert Lowry of McLean, Va, Ned Lowry and his wife Linda of McLean, Va., and their children, Svagita Sydney Elks, Miles and Shanti Lowry, Morgan Anson, Ashley and Melissa Lowry and Alex Lowry. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Bette Lue Lowry to St. Johns Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, 6715 Georgetown Pike, McLean, Va 22102.
