Bettye H. Henck
June 7, 1922 ~ March 2, 2021
Bettye Hinchcliff Henck, aged 98, died peacefully on March 2, 2021 at Goodwin House, Bailey’s Crossroads, in Falls Church, Virginia.
Born June 7, 1922 to Oliver and Helen Hinchcliff, she attended schools in Pennsylvania, Florida, and New York before attending Marietta College in Ohio. At the age of 4, she knew she was going to marry her future husband, Fred W. Henck, and did so as a war bride on June 23, 1944 in Greenville, S.C.
She is survived by three children, Kathryn Parker, JoAnne Henck, and William Henck, daughter-in-law, Leigh Henck, 5 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, and by her son-in-law, John Parker.
Bettye was an avid history and mystery reader and with the knowledge gained, mixed with comedic timing learned at an early age from her parents who had been in vaudeville, entertained her family and friends with humorous responses her entire life. She was known by her children’s friends as the best mom in the neighborhood. She spent many hours assisting the ladies’ volunteer organization at Resurrection Evangelical Lutheran Church. As a vegetarian who loved bacon, she became known as a “bacontarian.” Until the very end, she was a connoisseur of wine and chocolate.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Animal Welfare League of Arlington, 2650 S. Arlington Mill Road, Arlington, VA 22206, www.awla.org , are greatly appreciated.
