Norfolk, Virginia
Resided in:
Oakton, Virginia
Beverley Randolph Whittle III, better known to all as “Ran” passed away peacefully on December 27, 2023, surrounded by his family and friends. He was a great father to Tyler and a wonderful husband to Susan. He was a gentle soul who was friendly and kind to everyone he met. He coached many Vienna kids over the years in soccer, basketball, and lacrosse and will be dearly missed.
He was born in Norfolk, Virginia to Beverley and Sue Whittle of Cape Canaveral, Florida. Ran leaves behind his wife of 21 years, Susan Wise Whittle, and was the loving father of Tyler Randolph Whittle, both of Oakton, Virginia. He is survived by his mother Sue, a brother, Page Whittle, Fruitland Park, Florida, and nieces Hannah of Denver, Colorado and Sarah of Fruitland Park, Florida; sister-in-law Dr. Barbara Wise and her husband, Dr. Brian Krakover and nephews Jacob, Grant and Max Krakover of Fayetteville, North Carolina; brother-in-law Marcus Wise of Fort Defiance, Virginia and his niece, Audrey and her mother Annie Mathot. Ran is preceded in death by his father, Beverley R. Whittle Jr. and sister-in-law, Jennie Whittle. Ran also leaves behind his constant canine companion, Bailey; their daily walks throughout the community are dearly missed everyday.
Ran graduated from Martin County High School in Stuart, Florida and was a National Merit Scholar, receiving a full scholarship to Florida State University, where he earned his BS and MS degrees. He spent his career in banking and wealth management at SunTrust, Washington First and most recently, Morgan Stanley.
He was a generous and kind-hearted soul, respected by everyone, mostly due to his kind and friendly personality. Ran had incredible patience, and always made time to help others, whether at work or on the sports field. Ran was an amazing father to Tyler and coached Tyler and hundreds of Vienna youth in soccer, basketball and lacrosse. He was a dedicated Madison High School volunteer, helping out at many sporting events during Tyler’s Warhawk years. He was also a member of Vienna Presbyterian Church in Vienna, serving in many volunteer roles.
His legacy will carry on forever reminding us that love and family are the most precious gifts we have. During his battle with cancer, he often remarked that he was grateful for the many visits and care from his family, friends, and co-workers and that he always wanted them to remember to fill their lives with meaningful moments and surround themselves with those special to them.
There are no words that can express how grateful the family is to so many who provided care along his difficult journey. A heartfelt thank you to the Fairfax County paramedics and firefighters for providing excellent care and transport to his many hospital trips.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 5, 2024, at Bazin’s on Church, 111 Church Street NW, Vienna, Virginia. The event will be 11 am until 3 pm, please feel free to stop by anytime during those hours to share condolences and fond memories of Ran with Susan, Tyler, and their family.
In honor of his deep love of Florida State University, and their football program, please wear casual Florida State University attire, including shorts. This was Ran’s request-he wanted everyone to wear FSU gear and be casual, that was his favorite style. No ties please!
In lieu of flowers, the family requests those who wish to express their sympathy to consider making a memorial contribution to a scholarship fund for Tyler’s education. Details will be available at the Friday reception. Please continue to keep the Whittle family in your thoughts and prayers.
