Bronwen Diane Kimsey, 82, of McLean, VA, passed away on 5 November 2023 after
succumbing to the complications from surgery a few weeks prior.
Bronwen was born on 7 June 1941 to Grace and Geoffrey Krummeck in Pretoria, South Africa.
Bronwen’s family moved to Washington DC in 1954 where she completed high school and was
an accomplished diver at Woodrow Wilson High School in 1959.
In 1964, she married James V Kimsey, and stayed in United States to eventually become a
citizen.
Bronwen maintained her connection with South Africa, working at the embassy for many years.
As a proud member of the Washington Redshins, she was among the first women in DC to play
organized women’s soccer. She was also an avid tennis player and fan.
In 1989 she started her own company, the Abacus Exchange, which embarked upon bringing
art and jewelry created in South Africa to the United States.
She is survived by her three sons, Michael Kimsey, Mark (Sarah) Kimsey, and Raymond (Petra)
Kimsey; her grandchildren Emma Kimsey, Sophia Kimsey, Maya Kimsey, Jackson Kimsey,
Benjamin Kimsey, and Etta Kimsey; and by her two sisters, Thalia (Graham) Lindemann and
Cheryl (Andrew) Veitch.
Services will be held at the McLean Project for the Arts at the McLean Community Center, 1234 Ingleside Ave, McLean, VA 22101, on 17 November 2023 from 3 to 6pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to one of the following charities: Wounded Warriors, Doctors w/o borders, World Wildlife
Foundation.
