Carl was an utmost professional with a kind heart & respect for his fellow Journalists. Extending heartfelt condolences to his family, close friends & colleagues.
I worked with Carl at CNN for more than ten years and he was a great journalist and the consummate professional every day. I consider myself very fortunate to be able to call Carl a friend. He is someone we all liked and respected and his memory will live on in all of us who were touched by his kindness.
It was a great pleasure working with Carl on and off over the years, at the Pentagon as journalists, and later in my capacity as spokesman for the FAA. He was always nudging me to find time to get my pilot’s license current, and much of our time was spent telling “there I was” flying stories. I remember him as a great professional no matter the story, and a good friend. I wish him clear skies and a good tailwind,

I am very sorry I never knew Carl but I admired his work as a broadcast journalist. I do know Carl III, who is saving lives in Indianapolis. Carl III is the consummate public servant whose dedication to serving the underprivileged in our community must certainly spring from the values his father imparted. Indianapolis thanks Carl for Carl III.
My condolences to the family. Carl was my flight instructor and a great teacher. I wish I had stayed in touch with him. Best to all.
Carl brought much needed grace and professionalism whenever I encountered him working a story throughout Washington for ABC NEWS and CNN. He will be missed by all of his colleagues. I will miss him too. He was also very devoted to his wife and family.
