Caroline Anne Nutaitis
February 1, 1927 ~ December 17, 2009
Caroline Anne Hovenchak, born February 1, 1927, was the middle daughter in a family of eight. She grew up as a farmer's daughter in Berwick, Pennsylvania. After the death of her mother, Caroline tirelessly devoted herself to her siblings. At the age of 21, Caroline married Wedo Nutaitis, a farmer's son, & together they had four children: Wedo Nutaitis, Jr., Michele Anne Nutaitis, Matthew John Nutaitis & John Thomas Nutaitis. She raised her children with love, devotion, sacrifice, & wisdom. Undeterred by hard work, Caroline managed her husband's dental practice, later, her son's optometry practice, & the family cattle business, as she tended to her family. Eventually this family came to include two daughters-in-law, Catherine Theresa, Nutaitis & Beckie Michael, & a son-in-law, William Keith Mathis.
Married for sixty years, Caroline worked daily at her marriage. In doing so, she has provided the generations that followed an enduring gift. Her legacy to them is the importance of a faithful & loving relationship between a husband & wife.
Her greatest source of joy, however, was her grandchildren. She derived a tremendous amount of pleasure & amusement from them as she watched them grow & mature into young men & women. She took pride in their academic & athletic achievements, never failing to inquire about each child & his or her activities. One look at her gallery of framed photos would attest to her devotion to her grandchildren. Whether baby pictures, school & sports pictures, or family portraits, they were all included & displayed prominently.
It is this set of ten grandchildren- Matthew John Nutaitis, Jr., Joseph Barrett Mathis, James Rhett Nutaitis, John Tencer Mathis, Kathleen Brett Nutaitis, James Carver Mathis, Joshua William Mathis, Alexandra Caroline Nutaitis, John Michael Nutaitis, & Jacob Keith Mathis- their parents, aunts, uncles, that she would say "I love you all. Be successful, be happy & never forget that family is your greatest treasure."
Today is our opportunity to express our love & pay our final respects to a beautiful lady. Good-bye Mom, our love for you will have no end.

Mrs. Nutaitis made a person feel comfortable at the Dentist’s Office. She was pleasant and always interested in the lives of my two girls. I have known her since the late 1950s. She never changed. I always told her that she could do the job of her husband since she was there every day with him. She always talked about her children. She was proud of them. She will be missed.
May the Nutaitis Family’s sadness with the loss of a devoted mother, get a measure of relief from knowing we share in their loss and send our deep sympathy and condolences
Mrs.Nutaitis was always a very gracious and caring lady. For at least twenty years she kept us abreast of our family’s dental needs. We extend our condolences and deepest sympathy to the family she was so proud of. Sincerely, Bob and Allison Massey
I knew Caroline as the competent and upbeat face in my optometrist’s office. She always looked great and had both a smile and a friendly comment. I will miss her when I go there and also think of her as I drive by her house. She was a neat lady. My sympathy goes out to the family for the loss of this lovely person.
