CHARLES C. HUBBARD
On Sunday, November 6, 2011. Charles Cooper Hubbard, 91, formerly of Washington DC, Bethesda MD, Potomac MD, Charlottesville VA, Pagosa Springs CO, and 11 year residents at Sunrise Assisted Living in Fair Oaks, VA, passed away peacefully with family by his side. Beloved husband of 55 years to the late Leewai Chance Hubbard and loving father to Charles Chance Hubbard, Jill H. Barrow, and Jane H. Sams. Cherished grandfather to Christopher Barrow, Charles Gates Barrow, David Barrow, Henry Sams, James Sams, and Dana Hubbard. Great Granddad to Joshua and Abigail Barrow. Preceded in death by his brother James Hubbard and sister Mary H. Weger.
Charlie Hubbard graduated the University of Texas with a BS in Civil Engineering in 1946 and served with the Army Corps of Engineers during WWII. After a brief stint with the Texas Highway Department, Charlie spent 20 years overseeing oil field engineering and production for Humble Oil and Refining in various operation in East Texas. He subsequently joined Bernard Johnson Incorporated of Houston, Texas and became VP, Sr. Partner and Regional Manager, where he grew the firm's Washington DC presence from 2 to 190 professionals over a 15 year period into one of the most respected architectural/engineering businesses on the East Coast. A registered civil engineer, Charlie was a member of the American Society of Engineers, American Consulting Engineers Council, Metropolitan Washington Board of Trade and the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce. He served the community in leadership roles in the Smithsonian Association, Rotary Club of Washington DC, and Masonic Lodge. He was on the Board of Directors of the Honor America Committee and was a Deacon, Elder and Vice President of Trustees of the National Presbyterian Church.
Charlie was a self-made man and a modern day pioneer. Willing to relocate to new places and attempt new endeavors for the betterment of his community and family. Although he left Texas, he never lost his Texas roots and lived in and loved his boots. He cherished and loved his famlily, hunting with his bird dogs, tending his prize rose gardens, traveling the world with his beloved Leewai, and helping others. Our magnificent and beloved Charles Cooper Hubbard represented integrity and loyalty, and was the happiest when he could serve his country, his faith, his family, and friends. He knew no stranger and leaved behind a large footprint.
