Marcia & family, Many people share your grief today. I worked with Mason at The Post for more than two decades and marveled at his pleasant disposition and unfailing willingness to jump in and “fix things,” even when the problem wasn’t of his creation. He was a gentleman … and a friend.
For Marcia, family & friends — On this sad and reflective occasion, I offer my condolences to all who knew Mason and thereby benefit forever from his unique presence. My own career I owe to him. Mason was kind, smart and committed to the fullness of life.
I worked for Mason at The Washington Post for more than six years. He was an amazing boss and, more importantly, a kind and decent man. In the pressure-filled environment of the newsroom, I never saw him flustered or lose his cool. He mentored, encouraged and steadfastly defended his employees. Even a decade later and in a different line of work, I try to live up to his example of professionalism. I’ll always be grateful to him. He’ll be missed by so many.
Thinking of you all and praying for you as you are grieving the loss of a wonderful man. Love you!
Our high school years gave us some wonderful friends. Mason will be missed by so many, but has left such wonderful memories.
Marsh, you and Mason made a terrific team. Our sympathy and prayers are with you and the family at this difficult time.
I worked with Mason at ISS for a number of years. I was the one who interviewed Him for the job and, subsequently and without any hesitation, hired Him. We became instant friends. I loved working with Him. He always had huge respect for others. He inspired me to be a better writer. I always admired his integrity. His positive energy was contagious. The world has lost an amazing human being. I will miss Mason immensely. My thoughts go out to His Family, whom He loved so very much.
Mason provided many students and young journalists with invaluable lessons about his craft, and the Boston University journalism center was lucky to have him. I learned so much from him in a very short period of time. My deepest condolences to his family.
I hope the passage of time will help you at this sad time.
Mason was a kind and patient colleague at The Post. I liked his giggle! I am so sorry he had such an awful disease. My heart goes out to Marcia and family.
Marcia, So sorry we couldn’t be at the service Donna and I were out of the country. Mason was far and away my FAVORITE EDITOR that I ever had. Joel Richardson
Mason was such a friendly, wonderful guy. I worked with him at ISS, and am grateful to have known him. My thoughts and heart are with you.
Dear family members of Mason, Under the name of the whole French research team members at ISS, I would like to tell you that our thoughts are with you. We had a long story of communication with Mason across the ocean as he has been during his whole professional life at ISS a very strong support for the French team. Each of us had many opportunities to share long and late – but always pleasant – communication with Mason during our busy period. It was a real comfort to know that Mason was there for us during this demanding period. We all appreciated very much to work with him and we will miss him. Warmest regards, From Eva, Orsolya, Martine, Guillaume, Nogoye, Benoit, Antoine, Camille and Catherine
Dear Marcia, We never had the chance to meet in person but I worked with Mason for a number of years at ISS. I was overseas when Mason passed away and was not able to attend the memorial and to offer my condolences to you and your family in person, and I feel I have to apologize for that. Mason was a friend, a dear one, who I will deeply miss. I hope you and your family will find some comfort knowing that he is resting in peace now. I will continue to pray for you and your family in this time of mourning. Warm regards, Renata Schmitt
