Cheryl Denise Williams
December 3, 1958 ~ March 9, 2021
CHERYL DENISE WILLIAMS, the youngest child of the late Rev. Alexander Williams, Sr. and the late Olivia Johnson Williams was born on December 3, 1958 in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was born with Down Syndrome with special intellectual and developmental needs. Her family was determined to help her grow, function and live to her fullest potential.
With that in mind, Cheryl participated in the various educational, vocational and recreational activities of the Special Olympics Program, The ARC of Greater New Orleans, The ARC of Northern Virginia, Mount Vernon-Lee Enterprises (MVLE), and INOVA Cares for Seniors (PACE) Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly. Her most treasured activity was volunteering at Hollygrove Senior Center in New Orleans where she served meals and played games with the elderly clients.
Cheryl's love for the Lord was always apparent, as were His love and blessings for her. She was baptized at an early age at Jerusalem Baptist Church in New Orleans. She enjoyed praising God in song and testimony, and was a cheerful giver. Her favorite songs were "This Little Light of Mine”, “Yes, Jesus Loves Me” and “Jesus on the Mainline". She shined for the Lord at every opportunity. She assisted in Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and the gospel choir at Tulane Memorial Baptist Church. She continued her Christian service at Gentilly Baptist Church in New Orleans and at Peace Baptist Church in Dunn Loring, VA after moving here with her sister in 2005 after Hurricane Katrina.
She was always so proud of her job accomplishments. Her "paychecks" were her way of showing her independence. She worked for Goodwill Industries and The ARC of Greater New Orleans. She worked for Mount Vernon-Lee Enterprises (MVLE) in Chantilly, VA for 12 years leaving when she was unable to work due to her failing health. Several of the community fundraising products of her group were sold in major distribution chains in Virginia. Cheryl was known as the "Knitting Queen" for her talent at needle point tapestry which she designed and knitted and gave as gifts to family, friends and church members. Cheryl was affectionately known as "Aunt Cheryl”, which she wore as a "badge of honor", among her nine nieces, six nephews and their friends. Her additional hobbies were bowling and arts and crafts.
Her family and friends loved her dearly and mourn her passing. We will hold precious memories of her caring, kind and loving spirit in our hearts. We loved her, but God loved her best and has taken her to be with Him for all eternity.
Cheryl leaves to cherish her memory two sisters: Lorraine W. Johnson (Eugene) of Capitol Heights, MD and Louise W. Arnolie of Reston, VA, a devoted nephew, Anthony Arnolie, Sr.(Jennifer) of Vienna, VA who helped his mother care for her; Elliot Stanley Johnson(Flor), Dr. Edwin Terrance Johnson, Jason Butler, Anthony "A.J." Arnolie, Elias, Rinji; and nine nieces Alayna, Grace, Crystal, Charity, Chara, Charis, Crystina, Eva, Kiah, and a host of cousins and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Rev, Alexander Williams, Sr. and Olivia J. Williams; four brothers Eddie Williams, Alexander Williams, Jr., Ronald Williams, Harry James Williams and two sisters Rose Marie Butler and Velma Williams and nephew James L. Butler.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private funeral will be held at Money and King Funeral Home, 171 W. Maple Ave., Vienna, VA on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at 10:00am EDT. Those wishing may watch a livestreaming webcast of the funeral service by clicking the link below this obituary.
