Denis Anthony O'Sullivan

Denis Anthony O'Sullivan passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 25th at the age of 57 with his loving wife, Tamara, by his side.

Born in Akron, Ohio on March 9, 1964, Denis was raised in Springfield, Virginia, and considered himself a Washington, DC area native. He graduated in 1982 from Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria, VA. From there, Denis attended the University of Virginia where he made many lifelong friends and became an impassioned Cavalier. While at UVA, Denis was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon and developed a love of rugby, which he played well into his 20’s. He graduated in 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and International Affairs.

In 2001, Denis married his best friend and soulmate, Tamara Coriaty. He loved planning their date nights and surprising Tamara with anniversary weekend get-aways. Together they have three wonderful daughters, Cecelia (17), Anna (15), and Evelyn (12). Denis adored his girls and always put family first. He shared with them many Saturday mornings at “Cars and Coffee” and was a fixture at their swim meets. He religiously rushed to volunteer at Great Falls Elementary School in the classroom or on field trips. He never missed a Father/Daughter dance at River Bend Golf and Country Club where, as the tallest man in the room, he could be seen proudly dancing with Cecelia and Anna while cradling Evelyn in his arms. He was his family’s protector as exemplified at the morning bus stop, ensuring that no cars would ever dare blow through the school bus stop sign!

Denis enjoyed road food and had a particular fondness for greasy spoon diners and barbecue. He loved to travel, with one of his all-time favorite adventures being a post-college rugby/backpacking trip through Europe where he visited as many countries as time allowed.

Denis spent 30 years working in financial services where he enjoyed a respected and distinguished career. His professional legacy was built on his ability to provide good counsel with the highest level of character and integrity. He was a sounding board, a support system, a friend, and an esteemed advisor whose career cap-stoned in 2020 with his co-founding of OARS Capital in Reston, Virginia. He also left a strong legacy in the community by serving on various professional and philanthropic boards and committees. Among others, he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Association for Corporate Growth, National Capital, and founded the Washington Technology Showcase. He also served for two years as President of the Trustees of the Funds, the endowment for the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia, and was a Stars Mentor for the Mach 37 Cyber Accelerator.

Denis was an incredibly engaging and loving person with an infectious, uplifting demeanor. He was a loyal friend and loved meeting new people. Denis lived true to his faith and was an active member at St. Francis Episcopal Church in Great Falls, Virginia. He will be dearly missed by all who were lucky enough to know him. In addition to Tamara and their daughters, Denis is survived by his parents, Denis and Carole (nee Lucas) O’Sullivan, his sisters Susan McGuire (Randy) and Mary Beth Tawes (Brent), his brother Michael, and a host of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held in August. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Denis’ memory can be made to Operation Hope https://operationhope.org/denis-osullivan/, a nonprofit organization providing financial education to low-income youth and adults.
