Dolores "Dee" Hammarstrom, age 85, of Springfield, VA died on October 13, 2012 at INOVA Mt. Vernon Hospital. She was born on August 1, 1927 in Detroit, MI to the late David and Mabel Anderson Deneau. Dee was a member of the Gold Star Wives Club and a talented artist and actress. She lived all over the world including Scottsdale, AZ, Rome, Copenhagen, New York, all of the while accompanying her husband on his multiple military assignments. Dee was a dear friend, both here and abroad, to many and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Dolores was the beloved wife of the late Lt. Col. Arthur F. Hammerstrom, Jr, veteran of World War II and Korea, who died in 1965 while serving during the Vietnam War. Loving and devoted mother of Arthur F. Hammerstrom, III and his wife Jane of Fairfax, VA, sister of Joan Hensley of Detroit, MI, close cousin of Jan Deneau of Pebble Beach, CA and sister-in-law of Julie Hammarstrom of Boulder, CO.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 22nd at 10:30am at Our Lady of Good Counsel, 8601 Wolftrap Road, Vienna, VA. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery will be held at a later date. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Smile Train (www.smiletrain.org), P.O.
