Dora “Dorita” Diago O’Steen, who was a proud and dedicated employee of the CIA for over 40 years, passed away after a brief illness on July 6th at the age of 81 surrounded by her two children and their partners. Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Dora committed her life to loyally serving her country with honor at several federal agencies, including the U.S. Secret Service, but beginning and ending her distinguished career at the CIA. Her bravery and exceptional work ethic earned her many accolades through the years.
She was predeceased by her adoring husband William B. O’Steen and is survived by her loving children, Charles A. Mitchem and Frances Mitchem-Diago; her step-daughter Maria O’Steen; her brother Carlos and his wife Betsy; her nieces and grand-nieces and -nephews; and her many cousins. She is also survived by her ex-husband and father of their children, Charles E. Mitchem; her cousin Susana, and her cousin/best friend Isabelita Blanco Gordon.

She will be remembered for her love of music, painting and gardening, her playful sense of humor, her compassion, her legacy of service, her devotion to family, and her unwavering patriotism. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mark Catholic Church, 9970 Vale Rd., Vienna, VA on Saturday October 26th at 11:00 AM followed by a Memorial Visitation at nearby Money & King Funeral Home, 171 Maple Ave., W., Vienna, VA starting at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Dora’s name to either the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, ASPCA, or the National Stroke Foundation.
