dorothea kronmiller
Scottie Kronmiller, beloved mother, doting grandmother and fabulous friend, passed away on Friday, August 27, 2010.

Dorothea "Scottie" Freed Kronmiller was born on July 9, 1917 in York, Pennsylvania. Scotty lived a vibrant and exciting life as a successful Broadway actress, artist, Navy Captain's wife, mother of two and beloved grandmother of four.

In the 1940's, Scottie starred as "Ado Annie Carnes, opposite John Raitt, in the national touring company of Oklahoma. Scotties rendition of "I can't say No!" was so funny, it became the standard for new actors performing that role today.

She continued to perform in theatre and model for the famed costume designer Edith Head in Southern California, while her husband studied at Cal-Tech. Just prior to her being screen tested for films, George was transferred to Penniscola, FL Airfield. So began her new career as wife and then mother. Georges career took them to London where he was Navel Attach and Scottie enjoyed entertaining, foreign dignitaries, and friends. Upon returning to the United States, Scottie & George resided in North Arlington and McLean, Virginia. Supporting George in his later career as Washington Director of United Technologies, she traveled with George extensively oversees. Scottie served as Chair of the Virginia Woman's Republican Party for over 40 years, volunteered at the Alexandria Torpedo Art Factory, took numerous classes including sculpting and painting , and was active in the Commonwealth Circle. Scottie continued to support the Theatre and Arts through her charitable works and personal contributions until her death.

Scottie is survived by her four grandchildren, Ted Jr., Lauren, Rory and Michael. Her daughter is Kristen Pinfield of San Antonio, Texas who is married to Gregory D. Pinfield. Her son Theodore G. Kronmiller of Great Falls, Virginia, who is married to Kate Bonner Kronmiller.

Guestbook

  1. An unforgettable, beautiful, generous, fairy-godmother-kind-of lady! As a childhood friend and neighbor of Kris, I would look for any excuse to be in Scottie’s presence. I spent many happy hours singing “I am as Corny as Kansas in August” in the Kronmiller basement – hoping to morph into Mrs. Kronmiller! My sincere sympathy to the family.
