Dorothy Joyce Dibner

Dorothy Joyce Dibner passed away at the Roderwood retirement community in Silver Spring, MD, on January 8, 2015 at the age of 87. Previously she had been a resident for 37 years of the Hallcrest Heights community on McLean, Va. Born in Brooklyn, NT, Dorothy had a long career as artist, art teacher and manager of administrative services at the Corcoran Gallery of Art. She worked in a variety of media including oil paintings, yarn objects, sculpture and ceramics. Her unique painted hubcaps were featured at a solo exhibit "New Paintings in the Round" at the McLean Project for the Arts. She also served as a Special Assistant to Joan Mondale in the Office of the Vice President. Mrs. Dibner held a Bachelor of Arts Degree, cum laude, from Brooklyn College and a Master of Fine Arts Degree from Columbia University. For 62 years, Dorothy was the beloved wife of David Dibner, who died in 2009. She is survived by her son, Mark Dibner of Henderson, NC; her daughter, Amy Dibner of Silver Spring, MD; and her sister Muriel Chaskin of New York, NY. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Aaron Dibner-Dunlap, Megan Dibner-Dunlap, Eli Dibner-Dunlap and Ned Dibner; and a step-grandchild, Katherine Marshall. A celebration of Dorothy Dibner's life will be held at 5:30 PM on March 21, 2015 at the McLean Community Center, 1234 Ingleside Avenue, McLean, Va.

We shared a long friendship with Dorothy both in AAUW activities and cultural events in the area. A woman of many talents but humble and giving. We will miss her. With deepest sympathy to her loving family. Angela and Chris Ehemann
