Duane Keith Maddy was born in Washington DC at Walter Reed Medical Center on October 6, 1964, and passed at his home in Virginia on April 21, 2016. He was a unique and fun loving man that will be remembered most for the stories he told of his travels, his stuffed animal collection which were the subject of his book series called "World of Boo" and his humor. After a career in financial services, Duane let his inner explorer and artist loose and he and his wife, Valerie, travelled whenever they could. He wrote and published 6 books, created and sold films through his company Maddy Ventures on Amazon and Vimeo, and was a photographer that leveraged natural light and settings to bring out the true beauty of the models he worked with.
Duane is survived by his wife of 26 years, Valerie, of Centreville, VA, his brother Don Maddy of Nipomo, CA, his sister Danielle Ahrens of Sandpoint, ID, his sister Lori (Scott) Cruit of Santa Clarita, CA, as well as many nieces and nephews. His father, Keith Maddy, mother, Colleen Barlow Maddy, and sisters Kathleen Maddy and Dana Maddy preceded him in death.
Services will be held at Money & King Chapel in Vienna, VA on Saturday, May 7th, at 11:00 am followed by a reception celebrating his life at the home Duane and Valerie shared. Duane's final resting place will be at Valley of the Temples Memorial Park in Hawaii.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Duane's memory to the Smithsonian -- http://si.edu/giving/ways-to-give/other-ways/honor-or-memorial.

Only wish I could have made it back here to visit you and have my special guided tour before you left us. I’m so glad you made it to California last month. We’ll all do our best to be here for Val in any way we can. We will cherish all the memories and you will live on in my heart. Thanks for letting me sleep with some of your animals–I didn’t have any bad dreams so think you were ok sharing! Valerie–remember we are all here for you! Love you with all my heart!
