Edward A. Gonet (Age 87)

Edward A. Gonet died peacefully on Monday, March 22, 2010 at Fairfax Hospital. Mr. Gonet was born on February 24, 1923 to Walter Gonet and wife Anne Poole Gonet in Monaca, Pa. He entered the U. S. Airforce in 1941 and flew 28 successful missions over Germany as a B-17 radio operator during WWII. After he completed his military service, he attended and graduated from Grove City College in 1949, where he met his wife Mary who he married in 1950. He moved his family to Vienna, Va., in 1960 where he was a Real Estate agent, a devout member of OLGC Catholic church and an active member of the Vienna community for the past 50 years. He loved his family and was a friend to everyone he met.He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary E. Gonet, by his daughter, Kathy G. Heins and husband Maynard of Sterling, Va., by his son Gary E. Gonet and wife Karen of Oak Hill, VA, by his son, Ned Gonet of Raleigh, N.C., by seven grandchildren, Jennifer H. Remen and husband Matt, Katie R. Brylski and husband Steve, Meghan A. Heins, David E. Gonet, Amanda L. Heins, Cole K. Gonet and Connor E. Gonet, and by one great grandson, Clayton A. Remen. He is also survived by a brother Norman Gonet and his wife Gerry of Corapolis, Pa., and a sister Ruth Booth of Pittsburgh, Pa., three sisters-in-laws, Jeanne McCormick, Molly Cole and Shirley Wilson and husband Tom, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 124 Park St., Vienna, VA 22180.

  1. Pappy – You were the greatest grandfather any grandchild could ever ask for! I will miss your smile and all the stories you used to tell. I’ll never forget our heart to heart at the Vienna Inn. You were one of a kind and as close to perfection as they come. You will forever be in my heart. I love you!

  8. Gary – I am very saddened to hear of the news of your Dad. You always spoke so fondly of him and I sensed your closeness. While this is such a tremendous loss, I also know that he will always remain close to you, and his wisdom, love, guidance and friendship will remain with you always.

  12. Dear Mary and Family–we were so saddened to hear of Eddie’s passing. I fondly remember his care and shear joy of seeing his kids do so well–he was always asking about my family but he really wanted to talk about his and how proud he was. What a great skill he had and I now recognize that skill –as the jocks say “What a good guy”
