Edward Joseph DuVarney

EDWARD J. DUVARNEY (Age 92)
On Sunday morning February 19, 2017, in Great Falls, VA, Ed woke up and told his aid that he was ready to go to Heaven. A few hours later he passed into God's arms with family members by his side. Originally from Clinton Massachusetts he was one of the last of the "greatest generation", proudly serving his country in the U.S. Army during WWII and Korean War and for many years. As an enlisted NCO he rose to the top rank before becoming a commissioned officer and ultimately retiring as a Major and proud U.S. Army Engineer. He earned a number of medals while in service including two purple hearts. Upon retiring from active duty he continued to serve the Department of the Army as a civil servant retiring as a Services Management Officer at DARCOM. He was a loving father to Edward A. Stirmers and his wife Lorrie Stirmers of River Ranch Florida; Edward J. DuVarney, Jr.(Jay), and his wife Andre A. DuVarney of McLean, VA; Mark W. DuVarney of Norfolk, VA; and Cindy L. Adams of Martinsburg, WV. Ed is also survived by his brother Joseph Duvarney, his wife Barbara and his sister Beatrice Serewicz, both of Massachusetts. He loved and took pride in all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren and is survived by Brian Stirmers, Shane Stirmers, Jason Stirmers, Jace Richter, Justin DuVarney, Nicholas DuVarney, Ben Adams, Molly Adams, Madison Adams and their families including several great grand children. He joins his daughter Stacey R. DuVarney and his niece Laura Richter, who went home before him. We are proud and grateful for his life, his service, and his love. As a retired Officer in the Army, he will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors at a date to be determined. There will be one viewing at Money & King Funeral Home, 171 Maple Avenue W., Vienna, VA 22180, on March 2, 2017 between 6 8 PM for family and friends.
