Elaine M. Meyer

MEYER, Elaine Virginia (nee Mooney), a popular teacher at Fairfax County elementary schools, passed away August 9, 2024 at Reston Hospital Center. She was 85 years old.

A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and an honors School of Education graduate of the University of Toledo, she moved to Vienna Virginia in 1974. During her 27-year teaching career in Louisville Kentucky and Fairfax Virginia, she taught locally at Lake Anne, Beechwood and Oakton elementary schools. During her career, she was responsible for the education of over 1,000 students.

Mrs. Meyer was especially interested in science and developed several creative educational projects and programs for her pupils and teaching colleagues over the years. She also strongly believed in and promoted U.S. history and America’s traditions and heritage.

Elaine Meyer retired from teaching in 1999 to become full-time caregiver for her husband of 48 years, radio-television journalist Roy F. Meyer, when he was stricken with multiple myeloma. She was a compassionate, dedicated and effective caregiver as she was as a teacher.

Elaine was predeceased by her husband Roy in 2008 and all of her siblings; Voight Mooney, Vert Mooney, and Elizabeth Valentine. She is survived by a son, Scott, and many relatives across the country.

Elaine was a member of the Christ Church Parish in Saluda, Virginia. Elaine also participated in the Adult Christian Education (ACE) Sunday morning bible study classes at McLean Presbyterian Church. Services are being managed by Money & King Funeral Home, Vienna, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
