Erika Schach Miller

April 12, 1927 – Feb. 1, 2018

Erika Schach Miller of Fairfax, Virginia, passed away peacefully, with family by her side, on Feb 1, 2018. A native of Nürnberg, Germany, Erika was 90 years old.

She was the wife of the late US Army Colonel Raphael J. Schach, whom she met in Germany following the end of WWII. Erika and Raphael married in December 1948 and began their wonderful 42-year life together raising 3 sons and a daughter. Erika was fiercely devoted to her family, and was a dedicated Army wife during her husband’s 30-year military career. Army tours took the family to KY, TX, OK, IL, MO, Germany and VA.

Following the death of Col. Schach, Erika married the late Col. Thomas A. Miller, Jr.

She embraced his children and grandchildren eagerly and in return was respected and loved by them all. The blended Schach/Miller family enjoyed time together.

Erika was a talented cook, baker and seamstress and enjoyed entertaining family and friends often. She will be remembered as kind, generous, honest, and loyal and for her ability to make her house a home to all who entered. Her positive outlook on life, even as she neared the end of her time, impacted us all. She will be deeply missed.

Erika is survived by her children Roland Schach (Marti), Raphael Schach (Gretchen), Tom Schach (Bobbie), Heide Murphy (John).

She is the cherished grandmother of Steph Omanson (Glen), Casey Cline (Vince), Alex Schach (Lauren), Jennifer Schach (Phil Pope), Anthony Schach (Mindy), Jessica Caudill (Eric), Patrick Murphy (Caroline), and Mary Murphy. She is also the beloved Uromi of 10 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at Money & King Funeral Home, Vienna, VA May 29, 2018 from 4-6 pm.
