Eugene was born in Flushing, NY where he attended St. John’s Prep High School. Eugene graduated from Buffalo State College with a degree in Business. Upon college graduation, Eugene started his first job at MetLife and then quickly pivoted; kick starting a career in small business entrepreneurship. He was driven with an unmatchable work ethic.

In, 1986, Eugene married his childhood sweetheart, Diane. Together they went on to have three loving children. In 1995, Eugene and his family settled in Herndon, Virginia. Eugene and Diane were committed parents, teaching their children love and kindness.

After a successful entrepreneurship, Eugene turned his passion to helping others by entering the nonprofit business sector where he found great purpose in sharing in the trials and triumphs of those around him. Eugene served as the CEO of Good Shepherd of Northern Virginia, where he furthered the mission of providing assistance and shelter to the homeless.

Eugene shared his smile, compassion, and sense of humor with anyone and everyone. Throughout his life, the most important job to Eugene was that of spending time with his family. He enjoyed fishing, cooking, traveling, and working on home improvements. Eugene loved being a proud Grandpa to his grandson, Cody. Eugene held many titles in his life, son, husband, father, brother, boss, CEO, entrepreneur, godfather, and friend. Nevertheless, Grandpa was his last and most cherished title.

Services will be held at St John Neumann Church, 11900 Lawyers Road, Reston Virginia, 20191 on October 21 at 10:00am.

  1. I had the privilege of working with Gene for close to 10 years and found him to be an incredibly genuine, caring, passionate, humorous, and value-driven individual who helped infuse his talents into creating employment for people with disabilities. His laughter was infectious; he had an unbelievable work ethic and lived for his family. I will truly miss his energy, kindness, and caring nature. My deepest condolences, thoughts, and prayers are with his family. Gene was one of a kind and a wonderful soul.

  2. MIichael I am so sorry for the loss of your dad. I lost my mom young. She loved Wyatt the short period of time she knew him. We are sending you xxx’s and oooo’s. The Cote Family!

  3. I am so saddened and heart broken for your loss. Eugene was a true GENTLEman and I know he was the center for all of you. Even when Liz and I were stupid, obnoxious teenagers, Eugene always showed nothing but kindness and love. May his light fill you all with warmth and surround you with peace. Sending you all hugs, kisses and lots of love always, Roxanne

  4. My condolences to Gene’s family. It is difficult to lose someone still so young!! I worked with Gene for many years, sharing many hours of travel time together. His sense of humor, caring for others and dedication to the mission of helping others, especially people with disabilities were qualities that I admired very much. He certainly left the world better than he found it – and that is tribute to a life well lived.

  5. I worked with Gene for many years at SourceAmerica. He was an awesome guy who was alwas willing to help anyone out. He loved his family and sports and i remember him talking often about his son that was a high school quaterback. I am so sorry to hear of his loss. The world is a less fun place without him. Sending prayers to his family that he obviously cherished.

  6. Diane and family, I am so very sorry to hear of Gene’s passing. Gene and I worked together at SourceAmerica. I enjoyed working with Gene and appreciated his humor and kindness.

  7. Gene was my main man! We traveled together on many business trips when both of us were employed at SourceAmerica. Gene had an amazing sense of humor and he knew how to make the best of any situation. He always shared wonderful stories about his kids and his experience of growing up in NYC. One thing that was always present in many of our conversations – was his deep Catholic faith. Gene shared with me his illness, and during our communication, I told him that I was praying for his health. I will miss Gene, he had a huge impact on my life. Gene was a man of faith and his life on earth will be rewarded in heaven. God bless the Ficarra family.
