Flora M. DiFiore
May 21, 1930 ~ June 21, 2016
First generation Italian-American, born and raised in New York City, Flora died in Vienna, VA on June 21, at age 86.
Only daughter of Cecilia Olimpia (Ferrari) and Luigi Viglione, she is survived by her devoted husband of 65 years Joseph, her son David, and three grandchildren, Benjamin, Joseph, and Aurora.
At St. John's University (Brooklyn, NY), she majored in Italian and Spanish, becoming fluent in both languages, in addition to her parents' native Neapolitan. Known for her elegant appearance, signature style, and eye for dcor and fashion, she designed and made her own clothes and modeled during college. She was compassionate and drawn to helping others, especially immigrant families, leading to a career as a social worker in NY City.
An only child, Flora cultivated close relationships, building strong, life-long ties with a network of family in and around Naples and throughout Italy. After her son's birth, she became active in her community, volunteering for the NJ League of Women Voters, River Vale Library Council, and Our Lady of Mercy parish (Park Ridge, NJ). She and Joseph retired to St. Augustine, FL, in 1996, enjoying their home, family visits, and the town's charms. She had a passion for antiques and collectibles, was an avid reader, student of current events, and aficionado of life's small pleasures.
Flora will be interred in Culpeper National Cemetery, Culpeper, VA this week during a private ceremony.
