George Whitfield, "Whit" Dodson, 91 of Vienna, Virginia passed away on October 31, 2014 at home. He was born on October 19, 1923 in Memphis Tennessee. He was the son of the late George and Thelma Dodson. Whit is survived by his wife Armella, "Kay" of Vienna, sons, George Dodson and his wife Sheila of Oak Ridge, Tennessee; Peter Dodson and his wife Marice Werth and children Katherine and Christina of Vienna, Virginia; Andrew Dodson and his wife Patricia and children George and Jessica of Manassas, Virginia.

Whit enlisted in the United States Marine Corps following High School during World War II where he rose to the rank of Second Lieutenant. At the end of the war he attended Memphis State College and remained in the Marine Corps Reserve. Following his graduation from Memphis State, he attended Vanderbilt Law School, graduating in the class of 1949 and marrying Armella Katherine Mayer of Chilton Wisconsin. He had a brief law career in Memphis before being recalled into the Marine Corps for service in the Korean War. Following the Korean War, he returned to Memphis and began his career in the United States Civil Service. Whit and his family moved to Vienna in 1962 when he transferred to the General Services Administration (GSA) offices in Washington, D.C. At the time of his retirement he was an Assistant Commissioner in the GSA and a Lt. Colonel in the Marine Corps Reserve. He then began a second career as a consultant, forming the DOMAY Corporation and working with the International Data Corporation (IDC) where he worked until his final retirement. After retirement, Whit and Kay enjoyed spending winters in Naples Florida. He will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank Mabinty Conteh and Florence Forna for all their loving care and support.

Visiting hours will be held Thursday November 6, from 6:00 to 8:00 at Money and King Funeral Home in Vienna. A funeral mass will be said on Friday, November 7, at 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Vienna. Interment will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.

  2. Whit was an inspiring boss who helped guide my career from 1963 all the way to my last job before retiring in 1994. We had coffee together at Starbucks once after that and then we lost contact. He made a lasting impression on me and others who worked in his organization.
