Mrs. Day died on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at her home in McLean, VA. Mrs Day was born May 17, 1921 in Summerduck, VA. She was the daughter of Rosa Lee Thompson and Richard Wallace Thompson. For 68 years, she was the beloved wife of G. Temple Day. Her parents, husband, two sisters and a brother, all preceded her in death. She was a loving and nurturing mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who took great pride in cooking for and caring for her family, her home, and her garden. A more gracious and lovely Southern lady you would never meet anywhere, with impeccable style and taste. As well as being a wonderful homemaker, she worked beside her husband as he built Day Construction Company of Virginia and was co-owner of the Kitchen Guild of DC and Voell Custom Kitchens of Arlington, VA. The Days were devoted life members of McLean Baptist Church. She was cherished, loved, and admired by many.
Mrs. Day is survived by a sister, Janice Ashley of Fredericksburg, VA; daughter Sharon D. Benza (David Maley) of Fairfax, VA; son, Dennis T. Day (Martha) of Alexandria, VA; daughter, Dolores D. Frye (Timothy) of Charlotte, NC; four grandchildren, Kenneth Benza (Karen) of White Stone, VA, Dennis Day (Angela) of Nags Head, NC, Deedre Day of Woodbridge, VA, Darren Day (Allison) of Fairfax, VA; two step-grandchildren, Brian Frye and Kelly Collins and eight great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 3 at 12:30 p.m. at McLean Baptist Church, 1367 Chain Bridge Rd., McLean, VA 22101. Inerment will follow at National Memorial Park.
