Henry Wagner Brook

Henry Wagner Brook, 82, died quietly on December 13, 2016 in Mount Vernon Nursing Home after a two year struggle with cancer. He was the son of Benjamin Charles Brook and Julia Wagner Brook of Queens, NY. He graduated from City College of New York with a degree in engineering and Duquesne University Law School. He is survived by his wife of thirty seven years Carolyn Royster Brook, five children - Dr. Gail Brook Arthur (Dr. R. Samuel Arthur) of Harrisonburg, VA, Dr. Michael W. Brook (Nancy Sinclair Brook) of Los Altos, CA, Carol Quintero Brook (Orlando Quintero) of Harrisonburg, VA, Brian C. Brook (Alexandra Vydashenko Brook) of Jersey City, NJ, and Mark R. Brook (Qian Liu Brook) of Alexandria, VA, ten grandchildren and one great grandchild, and dog Scruffy.
His first job as an engineer was at Vertol Helicopters in Philadelphia. He then moved Pittsburgh, PA where he worked on the development of the first nuclear reactors for nuclear submarines at Westinghouse and holds a patent for a part he developed while completing his law degree. He moved to Washington, D.C. forty years ago to work as council for COMSAT, Inc. He has worked as Vice President and General Council for Nuclear Fuel Services, Vice President and General Council for Getty Oil, Texaco, and Vice President and General Council at Siemens Power Company. He was also a partner at Deckert, Price, and Rhodes in Washington, D.C.. He worked in extensively in the middle East and had an office in Yemen. He watched Nixon resign on television with J.Paul Getty at the Getty Mansion in Great Britain. In addition to living in the D.C. Area, he has lived and worked in New York, Washington, California, and retired to North Carolina before returning to this area to be closer to family and friends.
Mr. Brook has traveled to 6 continents and enjoyed hiking and camping in addition to being an avid golfer. He has golfed in Scotland and Australia. He would run or walk several miles daily until he became ill. He enjoyed listening to Frank Sinatra on his way to his oncology appointments at John Hopkins and met Mr. Sinatra through his Uncle Sam when he was growing up in New York. A bit mischievous, he would sneak off from school to go horseback riding as a child, and he has retained that sense of mischief and humor. He was a devoted friend and family man. He will be dearly missed. Relatives and friends are invited to Mr. Brook's Life Celebration at Money and King Funeral Home, 171 W. Maple Ave., Vienna, VA on Saturday December 17 from 2 until time of service at 3p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice. Dearest Carolyn, Glenn & I were so sorry to hear the sad news of the passing of Henry. We hope the wonderful memories that you have will help to sustain you at this time. Henry was such a lovely, kind, intelligent person, who we both always enjoyed having a conversation with. He will be missed by so many who loved him.
