Jacquelyn M. Rixse
December 22, 1923 ~ January 19, 2023
Jacquelyn M. “Jackie” Rixse passed away peacefully on January 19, 2023, at the age of 99. Jackie was the beloved wife of the late Franklin J. Rixse, mother of James S. Rixse, mother-in-law of Andrea L. Vaccaro, sister of the late Joanne G. Miller, and daughter of the late Reeves W. & Charlene B. Miller.
Jackie grew up in the Cherrydale neighborhood of Arlington County and was an Arlington resident for most of her life. In 1934, she was confirmed as a member of Cherrydale Methodist Church, and she remained part of that congregation for more than 88 years. She graduated in 1941 from Washington & Lee (now Washington-Liberty) High School.
During high school, Jackie began dating Franklin, who also lived in Cherrydale. In 1942, with the country in the midst of World War II, Franklin enlisted in the US Army and commenced officer candidate training. In January 1944, Jackie traveled by train to Little Rock, Arkansas, where Franklin was stationed prior to overseas deployment, and they were married.
While Franklin served abroad, Jackie took business and secretarial classes and found a job as a legal secretary in Washington, DC. After the war, Franklin entered the accounting profession and Jackie worked at several DC law firms until shortly before her son, Jim, was born in 1962.
In the early 1970’s, Franklin started his own small business as an accountant and tax preparer, and Jackie worked with him as a bookkeeper and assistant. After successfully growing that business, Franklin’s health limitations related to a chronic kidney condition eventually forced him to retire, and Jackie took a position in the payroll/bookkeeping department of one of Franklin’s former clients, Washington Printing Supplies. Jackie became a valued employee of that company, and she worked part-time well into her late seventies.
Jackie lovingly supported Franklin through the health challenges he faced later in life, until his death in 1991. She was very close to her parents, sister, and extended family who lived in the area, and she diligently assisted them and helped manage their affairs as they aged. After Jim met Andrea and they married in 2008, she welcomed Andrea into the family as a daughter.
Throughout her life, Jackie enjoyed learning. She was an avid reader of the newspaper and magazines, often cutting out articles that caught her eye. Jackie was also known for her love of sports, especially baseball. She was a dedicated fan of the Washington Senators in her younger years and more recently the Washington Nationals.
In 1998, Jackie moved to Goodwin House Bailey’s Crossroads in Falls Church, where she lived until her passing.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to the Goodwin Living Foundation, 4800 Fillmore Avenue, Alexandria, VA 22311.

As Aunt Jackie and I shared a close birthday, I looked forward to her call wishing me a happy birthday.
She was a blessing to all who knew her.
