James Russell Glassco, Jr.
Died November 13, 2012.
Born January 17, 1925 in St. Louis, MO, the son of James R. and Leta Heim
Glassco.
He served four years in the US Navy during WWII. He graduated from Trinity
College in Hartford, CT in 1950.
From 1974 until his retirement in 1991, he was Treasurer of the US Postal
Service.
From 1953 until 1960 he held positions with the Anderson Clayton Company and the
National Bank of Commerce in Houston, TX. From 1960 to 1974 he also worked for
the Aetna Life & Casualty Co. in Hartford, CT.
His retirement provided time for his serious and frequent participation in the
National Senior Games where he won numerous medals for swimming. He also held
state records at the Master level in swimming. He also enjoyed playing golf,
bridge and tennis.
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth of McLean, VA, and three sons: James M. and
Benjamin B Glassco of McLean and William S of Tiverton, RI. He was pre-deceased
by a daughter, Elizabeth, in 2002.
Services will be held Monday November 19 at St. Johns Episcopal Church on the
Georgetown Pike in McLean.
Contributions may be made in his name to the Discretionary Fund at St. Johns
Church.
