Of Oakton, Virginia died peacefully at home surrounded by her husband and children on April 20 , 2011. Mrs. Williams was born in Enfield, NC on November 30, 1931 to James Edward Condrey and Cornelia Braswell Condrey.
A graduate of Enfield High School she went on to receive a B.A. in Elementary Education from Meredith College in 1954 and did graduate work in Art History at George Washington University in Washington, DC. Further, she was a member of the Experiment in International Living. Mrs. Williams did her overseas living experiment in Austria. Later she hosted in home experimenters from France, Brazil, The Netherlands and India.
Mrs. Williams, a retired teacher, taught in public schools of Goldsboro, NC, Arlington County, VA and Fairfax County, VA collectively for 30 years. Mrs. Williams was an active member of the Meredith College Alumni Association. She also volunteered as a Docent at Historic Gunston Hall, home of George Mason. She volunteered as an English as a Second Language tutor and participated in the Vale Book Club of Oakton, Va. Mrs. Williams, one of the founding member's of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, Alexandria, Va., was an active parishioner for 48 years. She served on the Vestry, the Altar Guild and taught Sunday school.
Mrs. Williams' is survived by her husband of 48 years George L. Williams, a daughter, Elizabeth Condrey Williams Wooten and son-in-law Robert "Robin" L. Wooten of Kinston, NC., a son Marc Edward Williams and daughter-in-law Dawn E. Williams of Ashburn, VA., three Grandchildren: Olivia Whitford Wooten, Carrington Condrey Wooten of Kinston, NC and Sam Miyara Williams of Ashburn, VA., nephew Hugh B. Sherrod, Jr. of Charlotte, NC and great niece Margaret Sherrod Blue of Oakton, VA. Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her brother Robert Braswell Condrey of Frederick, MD and half siblings Charles B. Wallace, Kate Condrey Sherrod and Mary Pugh Spence all of Enfield, NC.
Mrs. Williams' funeral will be held at St. Mark's Catholic Church 9970 Vale Rd, Vienna, VA 22181, on Friday, April 29, 2011 at 11 AM. Father Patrick Holryod pastor of St. Mark's and The Rev. Dr. Anne Richie of The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection will officiate. Interment will immediately follow in the Memorial Garden.
